David Newton: Impressions from 8/5 practice

top dawg

Recommended Posts

KB was the first receiver on our radar that I heard about.  I liked his size and of course OT was such a concern I was back and forth.  When the pick came down, I was happy.   When I found out him and Cam were starting a Bromance I was even happier.

I am happy we drafted him and have believed he would be 1K receiver out the gate.  I think when it is all said and done.  KB name will be mentioned for OROY.  I think Cam is gonna abuse him like a red headed step child.   All day

I may have not been the first on the bandwagon but I have got a nice warm seat cause I have been close.

my thing with KB pre-draft is that i thought it would take some time for him to come around. i didn't think we had that luxury with smitty gone and our WR gutted. i thought he had the most potential to bust and the most potential to be the best WR in the class.

When the pick came in i was shocked with Lee still on the board. But immediately turned to happiness when DG said "obj is the only wr who could run the entire route tree" "kb does it better than most"

because i thought it was the opposite. I thought he would have a steep learning curve but could provide some production his rookie year based on his size alone. shows you how much people really know behind their computers.

from reports it seems like he's some sort of savant. he just gets football. like zod said and other people have reported he just seems like a vet. like he's been here doing this for a while now.

the biggest test will be how he fare's when pressed at the line because we all know he takes time to get moving. his size and physicality should mask that though and hopefully.

and also i've had a diehard fsu fan coworker (not a panthers fan) in my ear telling me this dude is going to be otherworldly.

In fairness it was supposed to take Cam 2-3 years to come around and thankfully we had a pro-ready Clausen already in place. Cam looked like hot garbage in the preseason his rookie year, but he faired ok. Talent evaluation is definately no certain science. Glad KB is for now, fulfilling his potential.

I'd agree this is the biggest fear at the moment. Offensive drills in TC generally give WRs 2-3 extra seconds to get clear because of lack of QB pressure. Then again KB has the strength to push through and legs the length of my entire body to get up to speed so maybe he'll surprise us again.

i wanted Cam from day 1 so it's a little bit different for me.

If I remember correctly jackofalltrades and panther55 where on the kevin bandwagon with me(I was driving)..... one other who was a draft nut his name escapes me....... but he saw what I did too and he tryed to open huddles eyes too. Sucks I forgot his username, he was a believer.

I believe me and dex were both draft nuts when it came to Optimus....

I believe in the expertise of the pros, that's why I don't really emotionally commit to any particular guy (especially in the first round).  However, I was pleased with the both picks---Benjamin and Cam---and have supported them (as I do all the players) ever since they put the uniform on.  I had more questions regarding Cam's ability to be successful in the NFL his rookie year, which were practically erased game one, but I had absolutely full faith in Benjamin's ability to be successful from the get-go (especially after listening to Greg Cosell).

I was just sure that we would pick Marquise Lee when it came down to it (with my son rooting for Lee in the background), and I actually exploded in ecstasy when Goodell called Benjamin's name.

I really liked Benjamin. The only concern I had was his age. I think he's already 23-24 or something like that, which means we won't have him as long as I'd like. Hardly a knock on the kid though. And if he is great coming out if the gates as a rookie instead of year 3 like most receivers, then it'll sort if be a wash. Love me some KB. Hate he chose #13 though. :(

I wanted the right guy two years in a row, Star last year and Kelvin this year. Hopefully that makes up for the two previous seasons. I didn't want Cam and was indifferent about Luke.

Same here. I wanted AJ or PP in 2011. And was for Coples or Fletcher Cox in 2012. Also, wanted Alshon in the second when the Rams snagged Janoris Jenkins.

But, I was all for Star (no-brainer) and Kelvin.

i actually remember a thread where you and I agreed that KB wouldn't be a DG type of pick because we both thought he was too raw after those DG comments about you have to be able to run the route tree and be able to make an impact day 1.

that's why i was so shocked because i thought Kelvin was the antithesis of those statements. Boy was i wrong after listening to DG's press conference.
