Training Camp Wrapup - August 5

Training camp resumed after a much needed day off. I took my kids out to TCBY and enjoyed the day. I appreciate it when the Panthers take days the rest, it means I can as well.

On with the wrapup....

Do you even realize how long Kelvin Benjamin's arms are? I mean seriously. This photo is in no way photoshop enhanced.

Kelvin is quickly becoming a fan favorite at fan fest. He always responds to the fans and flashes them that Seminole smile.

Although injured, Charles Johnson does not waste his day. He was practicing his hand work on the tackling dummy as everyone else was walking to the field. Johnson is an ideal role model for younger players to learn from.

Speaking of injuries, Thomas Davis did not seem to impressed by Nate Chandler's sore knee...

Bene Benwikere was also working out early, perfecting his hip motion in coverage. Bene seems to have the work ethic to excel in this league. As his competition was just getting to the field, he has already put in a good amount of reps.

FYI... DC Jefferson has a nose ring.

Chase Blackburn has taken being replaced by AJ Klein in the starting unit as well as can be expected. Blackburn said in the interview room today that he is willing to do whatever it takes for the team to win. Total class act.

Ron Rivera got up in Thomas Davis's face, and Davis wasn't having it.

Deangelo Williams got up in Thomas Davis's face and Davis wasn't having it.

Moral of the story... don't get in Thomas Davis's face. The end.

The wide receivers practiced sideline drills where Jason Avant excelled. Avant has been impressive all camp long including a few sideline grabs.

Marcus Lucas has become a QB favorite in training camp. Lucas just keeps making play after play. Today he had three receptions consecutively in team drills.

The Panthers like Marcus so much that they flew in his identical twin brother from France, Marquis Lucas

Philly Brown once again was returning punts and kickoffs. He did not have a single drop on the day. He has a real shot at making the roster if he can show a few good returns in the preseason.

Darrin Reaves is also trying to take advantage of being valuable on special teams. He was returning kickoffs today, and had no drops.

Reaves needs to work on his pass protection skills, however. During protection drills Luke Kuechly was able to toss him aside quickly.

Reaves did better against Denicos Allen, keeping him away from the QB.

Panther-Camp-8-5-16.jpg

Deangelo Williams barely got a glove on linebacker Adarius Glanton. Williams has struggled with pass protection throughout his career.

Panther-Camp-8-5-18.jpg

Richie Brockel was able to easily handle safety Anderson Russel. Pass blocking has always been a strength of Brockel.

Byron Bell spent the day at left tackle today with Garry Williams at right tackle. Both performed well for the most part. The big test comes Friday night against Mario Williams and the Buffalo Bills.

Robert Lester got a stern talking to by Steve Wilks after missing a coverage badly. Wilks is very hands on and passionate about his job. The Panthers are lucky to have him.

Jericho Cotchery really is a savvy veteran. He was sure to walk over and speak with Jerry Richardson and guest during practice. I did not see another player do so. Gotta keep in good graces with the boss man.

Panther-Camp-8-5-25.jpg

Charles Godfrey had a better day today and seems to do better in zone coverages. Bene and Godfrey are competing for the nickel posiiton.

Panther-Camp-8-5-24.jpg

Josh Norman appears to be out of the dog house and once again competing for an active position on the team. Norman has done well the past few days he has been healthy. I have him making the final roster.

Imagine you are a secondary player and your job is to cover this guy one on one.

Panther-Camp-8-5-29.jpg

Brandon Williams also looked good today, although many of the target looks he got were a bit off by the 3rd and 4th string QBs. The good news is he was open.

Panther-Camp-8-5-30.jpg

Cam Newton has stepped up the leadership role this year. Towards the end of practice, Cam encouraged the fourth string to keep up the energy by cheering them on.

Cam knows with a little luck, this could be a very special season.

Marquise Lucas looks like someone I know...

is Frank Alexander more of a thug with the nose ring as a white or black guy?

and finally, it shows just how much of a playmaker Pilares is going to be as a WR if Philly Brown is likely to ****** the role simply as a KR...

You have Norman making the squad? I personally don't want him anywhere near our practice squad. His stupidity could be contiguous.

Is it okay to feel optimistic? Goddammit, I promised myself...

Anyways, great job always!

If Norman can get it together I think we have a stud.. Don't see the problem with keeping him on the roster at all

Who is that with the nose ring? Frank would be in a blue jersey. Number #80? Maybe? Great pictures as always Jeremy!

DC Jefferson?
