In this information age, who gives a fug who breaks a story first?  I prefer something different.  Perhaps a little bit of a different take on the same old poo.

Did you really compare him to Schefter? One has over 3 million twitter followers and is a nationally renowned NFL figure for ESPN, and the other one is just a NFL Nation reporter for ESPN who has 25,000 followers. Honestly, David Newton is fantastic. His articles have just the right amount of homerism/fluff, but he still addresses the main talking points with the team. He is a writer for ESPN targeting general Panthers fans, I don't know why you're looking for some crazy in depth coverage - that's why you come here. 

 

For instance, look at this screenshot I took of my twitter timeline earlier. Is it really the end of the world if Newton doesn't report one play? There's plenty of guys doing that already.

newton isn't a football guy. he's a nascar guy that espn assigned to cover the panthers. they didn't assign him to the panthers because he knows his poo. they assigned  him the gig because he's a decent writer that they already had on staff.  panthers aren't a priority so they didn't go put of their way to find someone who knows a lot about the game and the team.

1. @Jjones He seems to get the info out the quickest.

2. @Blackbluereview Bill Voth has been doing a great job covering everything.

3. @CarolinaHuddle Jeremy brings the best photos of the action.

4. @Panthers The Panthers official feed, with official news.

5. @DNewtonESPN He may have random stories, but he more efficient than the following.

6. @Josephperson Occasionally reports, but is always lagging way behind the other reporter and will twist the words of their stories to make it his own.

I like him for the simple fact that he's not Yasinskas. I think some of your problems with his reporting might have more to do with ESPN and what his bosses want rather than him personally.

Voth, Jones and Igo are really all you need. Person and Newton just don't provide great coverage or opinion and really don't seem to care as much as the others. You can tell passion vs 'just a job' and it shows.
