Brandon Spikes - the best run-stopping linebacker in the NFL? FALSE!

I do not like Spikes but have seen him play many times as a Patriot.  He can only stop the run, only.  He may just be in the conversation for this.  Keuchly can go sideline to sideline, and meet the run.  Spikes is a run stopping LB.  Keuchly is a true MLB.

What are you smoking?

remember this at the end of the season, but before that go look at both teams schedules.

bills defense is no joke.

can you imagine if they had kiko with spikes?

good god

the amazing thing is that people were comparing Alonso to Keuchly at MLB.  Alonso is not an MLB, he is a WLB, he just played MLB.  He can cover and back pedal very well.  He can cover the pass.

they were comparing him because they're both white.

that is literally the only thing comparable about the two.

It struck me as entirely odd.  It drives me nuts about Newton and EJ Manuel.  Because they're black it's either Vince Young, Daunte Culpepper, Cunningham or McNabb.

Newton is like none of those players.  Manuel, I wish I knew he was like one of those players.

But, wrt to Keuchly and Alonso - Keuchly cannot cover like Alonso, and Alonso can't bring it like Keuchly.  Keuchly fights thru traffic and is very physical with the OL when needed.  Alonso moves between them and avoids that contact to get to the ball.

With Spikes he is nothing like Keuchly.  He engages the contact and is much stronger then Keuchly.  He is has 20lbs on Keuchly, and an inch shorter, too.  The guy looks built to play MLB - and between the tackles he is solid.  Outside of the tackles, the athleticism and finessee to make it to the hash to cover a run - he doesn't have that in his tool bag.  Keuchly does.

If I am starting a team and had to choose two ILB's - I would want both of them.  They would compliment each other beautifully and so much so I was hoping Carolina would pick the guy up - he would bring some attitude and some charisma to the team.  Together with the DL, well, Keuchly would not have to give 100% to the run and can just play football.  Spikes would have taken the hits.

I disagree about Cunningham. He is very much like him from 87-92. Was my first comparison. The numbers match up very well too both passing and running. No other QB from the past compares to Newton in both those areas as well as Cunningham.

I didn't see enough of Cunningham that early, I was too young.  I cannot compare anyone to CUnningham just by watching highlights and stats.  From what I remember seeing him to Newton - I just don't know - I can't do it.

As far as another black QB...I saw Warren Moon so many times in the Greatest Comeback of All Time that I know him well enough, he was something.
