The Huddle... In Print?

Who da FUG is Alice again?

This post was sent from a very fancy and shiny iPhone while using the buggy CarolinaHuddle iOS app.

His "name" is Alejandro but his real name is Alice.  He's a Saints fan who posts here with the torso of a warthog and twig-like calves

I grew up on magazines. I'm 39. But print is dead. There would be no purpose of this idea other than a novelty. It's cool, sure, but serves no purpose. I suggest you don't go through with it. As much as I hate our digital overlords (get of my lawn, kids!), the Internet has killed print for a reason.

And if you want to start as an e-zine, it will almost be straight competition for this very website. All you want to provide is already found right here on this site. Maybe a better idea is for you, or some art directors and graphic designers, to jazz this site up. Work with Zod to make it even better, more user friendly, and integrate user articles/photos on a more grand scale.

After Zod made the thread this morning about having Huddlers contribute to the site, a lot of you revealed you have writing experience. Well, imagine this... Zod's photo skills and connections, writing from Huddlers, my design skills, and everything that IS The Huddle all rolled into a 50 page Monthly magazine!!!

Me and Mrs. M3OW have been brainstorming all day, and I even threw together a sample cover and table of contents. Take a look...

Here is a break down of some of the sections we came up with:

Meet The Huddle - Would have a introduction to a Huddler/Fan, a section for opinions, and a Q&A.

Kitten of the Month - A two page spread with a new Kitten each month. Pictures, profile, and more.

Under the Helmet - This is where Zod will have to pull some strings and try to get a player interview.

On The Field - This is the section where we would have detailed analysis about the team (X's & O's) and whatnot.

The Growl - Panthers news for the month, including roster changes, scores, ect.

The Buzz - Section for all things Charlotte Hornets

Tailgate Tails - Section for recipes, tips and tricks, stories, and maybe even beer reviews for tailgating.

The Lounge - Pretty much a section for the off-topic topics. Anything could got here.

Get Your Paws On - A section for cool stuff, their reviews, where to buy them, and so forth.

It would take some time, effort, and dedication for the people involved. But this could take off. I'm working for a magazine in NC right now and know the ins-and-outs of what it takes to get this off the ground and get it going. And (If memory serves me well) we even have a few salesmen in the Huddle if we ever got to the point we could sale advertisements.

Just a thought. What do you guys think?

There's also a software package called 3D Issue that turns PDFs into electronic magazines that would save the cost of printing, too. I've used it, and it's pretty easy. Just drag and drop once you've put the mag together and saved as a PDF, then do an email blast to get it where you want to send it.

Well it seems it's split between people saying print is dead, and the other half saying they would subscribe...

So, here is what I'm going to do. I would like to put together a "Pre-Season" Edition and try to have it ready before Week 1. It would cover TC, preseason, and the final roster.

Now I need help from some of you. If you are interested in writing, submitting photos, or anything to help out... Let me know.

And Zod, I will still need your go-ahead seeing as how this is your baby.

BOOM! Huddle iPhone app.

First. I think it could be a great accompaniment to the Huddle. If it were, like Zod/Mr. Igo says, an e-book type thingy.

Second. I am pretty sure there are enough talented folks up in here to have plenty of content. It would give folks a platform to post their thoughts without having to read tl/dr.

Lastly. If it were successful. A portion of the proceeds could go to Toys for Tots. Added incentive for the work needed to actually make it a success.

To summarize. In the right format, with enough content, and done well. I see a chance of success. I would give some of us a sense of ownership, which, as a whole, isn't such a bad thing.

Most publications are trying to get out of print and online.

How about a ebook subscription type of thing instead for phones tablets and desktops

This is what I had in mind when I said start out as an E-Mag. I have a few photography and design magazines I get monthly through the App Store.

This has my vote as it has more of a unique flair!

Why read through a weekly or monthly e-subscription of articles, images, etc when you can get all of this here on the Huddle, on twitter, or other already preferred media outlets? Not trying to bust your bubble Meowx3, but that's just my opinion.

design, presentation, quality of content, some types of content work better as static articles than as conversation pieces. Just some of the things that e-mags focus on to differentiate themselves from other web based media.

Also, +1 for the idea. Might I suggest it only be a quarterly or bi-monthly thing to start off with? Would save on the headache of getting it up and running.

    • Morgan still has a little John Fox in him. Got to value those RBs even though they have been devalued for around a decade now. Never go more than 2-3 years on a contract unless he is a superstar, never pay high money and never draft a RB high unless you are set everywhere else. We failed on the first and third rules.
    • This is some good solid logic. I still go back to the teams think tank and it includes the current Dan Morgan, each looked over the roster of holes and came to a clear conclusion that the RB needed improving. They could have gave the same 2022 Miles contract to Hubbard, but didn't. Next up Morgan trades up for a RB with sanders and Hubbard here in his last year. While the edge group is lead bye Charles "panthers are the only team that wanted me " harris Hubbard keeps grinding and improves along with the OL, *now* months after seeing brooks on the field and watching hub get like 5.1 ypc...the brain trust goes and gives him a updated miles contract.........Just a odd timeline of events, I believe all of us can agree on that. Just the market is at the lowest its ever been for RBs and this team is 2-7 with other losing seasons with hubbard chugging along as a cheap rookie. I do agree with you sorta need 2 starting level RBs, so use a mid-rounder or sign one in FA for 2-4 per. Hubbard signed for more than King Henry, sure age and all. Id still want Henry for 8per over 2 years than hubbard 8.3 over 2(his cut point) Honestly part of is still pissed form the Herniay era and spending top draft picks and top level cap space on RBs. I love the guy but they even signed toldozer for upper money with stew and dwill, just poor management of resources. Now 20 years later, history repeats while the league is laughing at the Panthers. I want to over spend and over use draft capital on WRs, edge, and DL. At they rotate and play at the same time, panthers never used stew and dwill at the same time while both were top 5 paid. ugh
