The Huddle Contributor Program

Recommended Posts

So I have been thinking a bit about something and need to gauge interest.

I know some other sites ask for fans to write up content, promise to pay, and never do.

What if the Huddle were to accept contributions from fans for publishing on the front page (which gets a ton of views now).

But instead of getting paid by the huddle, contributors would set up their own donations button through paypal. That way if the readers enjoy a certain contributor, they can kick them a dollar directly.

It is the perfect free market solution. Whoever provides the best content gets the most donations.

Thoughts?

You taking interns?

So I may have missed it but is there an embedded paypal button on a post that would get promoted to an article or how would that work? Because there are individual posts here that I would definitely kick a buck too. Like someone a while back had an analysis of why Cam rocks and it was definitely worth a buck.

I third this. It's just something I love to do. Writing about the Panthers takes it over the top. It does make me slightly apprehensive, though. I've never really let many people read my stuff.

please direct all these "writing is it's own reward" do-good'ers donations to my PayPal.

I wouldn't be opposed to doing it the old way where you could pay to have a premium membership with the proceeds, ideally, going to the improvement of the site.

I personally have no problem paying a little to cover the expenses Jeremy is incurring for all the time spent in Spartanburg.

LOL ... Zod is doing JUST fine moneywise.

I would not use paypal. Paypal is notorious for fuging people over, and not caring. I honestly don't have a better alternative, but I would be wary of paypal

I've never had an issue with Paypal. Use it all the time.

I'd like to know how taxes would work with this ... and to play devil's advocate, what it all means to Zod other than just more content. That may be it, more content = more page views = happier advertisers.

There is always something new and exciting in digital land, but like with many apps, the craze dies fast. Anyone remember Angry Birds, Foursquare? Hell, Snapchat is losing it's appeal. I bet those creators are kicking themselves for not taking FB's offer. This contribution thing would be cool for a hot minute but wouldn't sustain itself in the long run. I'd bet good money on that.

I don't think donations need to go to a charity. People should be rewarded for the hard work they put into articles. If the writer wants to donate to charity, thats up to him/her. Its not like contributors are high paid athletes.

While I agree with the principle, and love the idea of writing as a profession, I don't think I'd accept money for something I wrote here.

Wouldn't criticize others who did. Just not comfortable with the idea for myself.

So? He's still putting in the time, work and gas in his car. I still appreciate his effort and enjoy the fruits of such, why not pay for it?

Coca-Cola has more money than they know what to do with, they don't just give it away now...

My point, there's enough value to justify paying, imo.
