Panthers Training Camp Wrapup - July 31

Sorry, I am pulling for him too, but its not looking good. But its early still.

Realistically, his best chance of making the squad has always been special teams.

You can't really tell who the standout special teamers are until the preseason games start.

True. This is why I pay close attention to the coaches comments and praise. I think that is the best indication at this point.

I could see him being a Jordan Senn type of player (great on special teams but God help us if he ever has to start).

Pilares plays WR and special teams. I don't think the others do other than Brown. If Pilares is decent at WR, he will make it.

that may be so because as a 6th or 7th receiver, you need some sort of options prepared in case of a lot of piled up injuries...  but on gameday, will turn out largely irrelevant and so he better show out as a returner.

Absolutely awesome post. Your pictures and captions get better and better. They really tell a story. I'd say the Panthers should hire you but they'd just censor your awesome work.

Love reading about the WR competition, sounds better than expected.

that's the problem, I don't think he'll play decent enough on game day to warrant a spot...

He has been in the past in his very limited number of snaps as a #4/#5 WR. And if he's not there we are in trouble if injuries happen as we'd only have Cason, Barner, and Underwood to do returns assuming no one else steps up.

I would have broken an ankle and wept in the fetal position.

Yeah, granted he did a little better than I would have, but the end result would've been the same.  WR wins immediately, runs route unimpeded seemingly half speed and catches the ball with plenty of room to run all the while I'm flailing about wildly coming nowhere close to what one might describe as "covering" him.
