Panthers will support RFID tags in shoulder pads, real-time player position data

Meh. Seems like it'll provide more useless information on the field that doesn't actually tell us about the game on the field but people will vehemently use to support arguments. Think 40 times but all year round.

haha no lie, I was thinking "Oh great another thing for huddlers to argue about".

I disagree completely.

What's the main criticism of putting too much stock into the 40 time? The fact that "real game" speed can be much different. Well, these RFID tags will give us the player's actual game speed, along with a bunch of other cool and meaningful statistics. Sure the information won't be the end-all be-all, but no statistic ever is.

i knew someone would bring up that stupid cliche' as a way to justify it in spite of the cliche' itself being initially what i was speaking against.

"real-game speed" is an overplayed cliche. a myth. "speed" has very little to do with how fast you're running at this level and most of that information can't be measured.

"Speed has very little to do with how fast your are running". That statement honestly makes no sense whatsoever and is quite funny to read.

"Most of that information can't be measured". What? That's exactly what they will be doing. They will be measuring the speed of the players throughout the entire play. What is this mystical immeasurable stuff you seem to think exists?

Bottom line is they can measure how fast you are during every point in the game, and you're kidding yourself if you don't think that's useful. They'll compare WR's initial acceleration, how fast they can cut in and out, and that "second gear" on long runs. They can also compare it to cornerback's stats, which could affect what the offense/defense try to do to get favorable match-ups.
