Cam and high throws.

It's one part of the "Gift n the Curse" IMO, the gift of being one of if not the best duel threat QB in league history but the curse of being a split second away from taking off and running when nobody's open. Another part of the gift and the curse is Cam's arm strength, accuracy and touch throws is usually the last thing a young big armed QB will get. This is the same gift and curse that persuaded M. Vick to throw his playbook in the trunk of his car bc he thought he had this QB thing mastered bc of his physical gifts, Cam is doing things every single day to get better so he can take this team to the promise land. Oh yea, his ankle issues, poor footwork sometimes and instant pressure will cause some high throws also...

Can has thrown high, especially short passes and screens, from day 1; his whole NFL career not just last season. Obviously it's got nothing to do with his injured ankle or new receivers. Too many on here try to portrey Cam as an elite passing QB like Rodgers or Manning but like Scott said Cam is a gunslinger and is more likely going to look more like Favre, maybe Elway or Young eventually, of you must already prematurely compare him to elite QBs. That's not to say he won't work on and improve himself because he has in fact done so already his first few seasons and does much better with short/screen passes, but that just isn't his style and those who see Cam becoming a Manning or Rodgers are either dillusional or will be disappointed.

You really think Newton doesn't take this 'personally' enough?

Obviously Not

why else would Cam stay after practice and work his ass off in conditioning drills

He just doesn't care, wants to eb an entertainer, etc, etc

I remember someone posting an article that discussed Cam's "infamous high throws" and compared him to the HOF QBs playing today.  It pointed to HOF QBs were far from perfect as fans seem to think and that Cam wasn't throwing high as often as fans thought either..

Goes back to "not always as good or bad as fans think"..  Cam's completion percentage is pretty good for a guy that "always throws high".

I'll try to find the article.

It is actually generally a good idea to throw the ball on the "high end" of the spectrum.  Not every pass is going to be perfect and missing high is the safest place you can miss.

If you overthrow tight coverage to the sideline, you eliminate any chance of a pick and give the receiver a CHANCE to make a play on it.  CBs are generally shorter than wide outs.  Overthrows on deep routes generally go behind anyone on the defense.  It is only an issue on screens, swings and short throws (which cam made serious progress with last year).

Another large factor is interior pressure.  When you can't step into your throw the entirety of your mechanics break.  You can't generate the raw flat power you need in the NFL that you generate with your lower body.  As such, you can either choose to be sacked or make an "arm" throw that will require more trajectory to make it to your man.

The above is what really gives Russel Wilson an edge as a quarterback due to his baseball experience.  As a fielder you need to be able to contort your body to supplement the multitude of odd angles you field the ball at and make a crisp throw immediately following.  These motions are completely against conventional quarterbacking mechanics, but can be invaluable when you need to run around like a chicken with your head cut off and get limited room to pass.

Olsen has a 36inch vertical, while Benjamin has a 42.5inch vertical...a young Steve Smith had a 38inch vert.

Where are you getting a 42 inch vert for KB?

Minus 10-12 inches.

If KB had a 42 inch vert he would have been one of the first players selected in the draft.

I've begun to think it's something of a common trait to 'gunslinger' types.  Delhomme was known for that too.  It's a mechanics thing.

You do what you can to coach stuff like that, but sometimes the smarter thing to do is adjust your roster.

Hence, Kelvin Benjamin and a receiving corps with only two guys under six feet (5'10 and 5'11)

Yeah, Farve was also famous for throwing "rocket balls", especially early in a game when his adrenaline was pumping... I think it's a common problem among QB's with big-time arm strength.
