Am I the only one who thinks the Panthers will be even better this season?

Idk about a better record but deff a better overall team that will go further in the playoffs! 12-4 will be tough to equal or better but I don't think records are the tell all be all! I wouldn't consider a solid 11-5 or 10-6 a step back

As long as we make the playoffs, I don't care much about the records tbh.

The Panthers could be better and still go 8-8. Sometimes things don't go your way. The line between winning and losing is very narrow.

I count 7 games last season that could have easily finished differently and we won 5 of them. That doesn't happen every season. Especially in the Carolinas.

And the ones we lost last year could have also have easily been won.

After one week of preseason our secondary looks better than last year. Our WRs are catching more and no matter who we keep we will be better than 2013. And most importantly our Oline is shaping up to be better than most expect.

All that said. Why can't we win the majority of our games. Barring injury I see no reason why we can't win 10 to 13 games.

I am excited about this season.

Damn, I just went and looked at our schedule again. God thats a tough schedule. So, my analysis. We lose at Baltimore, at New Orleans, lose to Atlanta once, at Green Bay, Bengals. Tampa Bay is a wild card, Detroit is a wild card with new coaching staff. I say we beat Seattle because if we lose to them three seasons in a row at home, I just wont know what to say, plus SB hangover.

Steelers dont scare me, Big Ben is a bit overrated and their D sucks. Hmm, so maybe we grind out 9 or 10 wins afterall.

You can't judge how tough a schedule looks before the season starts. Means nothing.

Bro, I can't agree with you more on this. For me, all those preseason ranking or something is bullshit, it hasn't even started, how can you predict it? Like last season, no one knows Falcons would hit the ground so hard after losing their two star WR, they thought the Falcons are a SB contender...

I think everything is better except OLine. We just don't need freak injuries. I think the signing of Cason will be this year's Mitchell. He was good, but not in good systems after Rivera left San Diego. Having the front 7 will offer him being better.

Aside from Gross, what did we really lose?

If you say Smitty, I say, "4 TDs and 745 yards."  That is under 50 yards a game and a TD every 4 games to keep it simple.  He never mentored the young guys. Not a good teammate.

Mitchell--he was overrated here.  Better than nothing, and our expectations were low. He got beat more than people realize and was not a good leader at S.

Ginn--a flashy guy, but where was the productivity?  We got more out of him than most, and we will miss his return skills.

Lafell---he is below average.

Munnerlyn---overachieved, now overpaid.

Additions > losses

Yes, every year it appears, teams they think will be good--are horrible, and teams that they think will be horrible--are actually good.

Indeed.

To early to tell we still have no idea what our final roster will be, who might get injured, and if we will get anyone from waivers. As a fan I hope we will be but honestly to many unknowns. Once we get to 53 I think we can have this conversation again.

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
