What $250,000 Buys You Around the Country

5,800 sf house in Weddington for jsut under $600k.

Only reason we wanted the size is for the basement.  Three kids (two are teenagers).  Tons of their friends are always lounging around the house, so we wanted to make sure they had their space (rather have them at our house than out who knows where).  The basement is totally theirs...I seldom even venture down there.

They have their video room with big screen and XBox/PS4...pool table...foosball table...air hockey table...and a separate bath.  Perfect place for teenagers to have fun without getting into "too much trouble".

That's what my wife and I want.  We will sale this house and move within 6-8 years.  We want to build our own home with full basement (theater, full bath, guest bedroom, full kitchen and game room).

Potential $70k profit on a $180k investment.....you made a wise choice my friend.

Not to mention a 3.6% 30 yr mortgage rate, no points.  It's a good situation financially, but my wife is starting to chirp for a new house.  Trying to fend her off as long as possible.

I'm the opposite. Older I get the less poo I want to take care of.

Damn woman, you're my age... You should still have a wildness inside of you.

I do! I'm just becoming less of a materialist. Realized I don't get much joy out of having a ton of stuff. I enjoy doing stuff.

Ya'll have some big ass houses out there.

I was told that a house shouldn't be over 2,500 Square Feet or else it just becomes too big. I'm actually quite jealous.

500 sq ft per person plus living area is all you need.

More to clean, decorate, and temperature control.

My energy bill is embarrassing.

Yea, same here.  I got gas in my house as well and my electric bill usually around $200.  Well above average for the area.

Running a pool several hours a day has my electric bill often around $325 a month.
