Pats claim RB Tyler Gaffney off waivers

To those of you trying to see the "bright side" of the situation by rationalizing the fact that he's done nothing in the NFL is kinda dumb. This kid put up 1700 yds from scrimmage last year, and was a real bruiser.

Keep telling yourself that he wasn't going to make an impact if you want to. The truth if the matter is that Ron himself has said on the record, that he was going to be a big part of what we were going to do this year. He was the insurance on our running attack, and had proved that he would have made a difference from what he did in college. His knee injury isn't even the ACL. That tells me that, while serious enough to sideline him for the year, he will become a factor in this league sometime in the near future.

Even if you don't believe that to be true, please believe we wasted a pick and 100K.

That's a fact jack!

So Gettleman is supposed to wait until Week 1 and cut a healthy player from the 53 man roster just to avoid the possibility of the Pats being dicks?

If people are going to criticize Gettleman, then they should criticize every general manager in the NFL because every GM does this when a player with small value/importance suffers a season-ending injury but is a player they still would like to keep.

The player almost always makes it through waivers and onto that teams IR.  Unfortunately Patriots appeared to like Gaffney a lot in spite of his injury.

This isn't a big deal in terms of football. But it's like an insult. It's like Someone sipping your drink, or knocking your books out of your hands, or cutting in the lunch line. Ultimately it doesn't help or hurt either team, it's just very sophomoric.

Yeah, that's why it stings right now... it's like, "if you wanted him, then why didn't you pick him, asshole?"

But there's also that thought of, "but... what if he does end up being really good?"

To be honest, when we picked him I was surprised, because I thought he was already gone by at least the 3rd round... I was surprised he dropped that far. It just sucks...

I suppose we could have made a much worse pick at that spot. We could have drafted Michael Sam, and let us all Thank God that we didn't. For that one reason alone, I am now good with this. Carry on
