Tackle might not be as bad as we thought.

Byron Bell's terrible play is what made fans uneasy.

At this point most everybody is justifiably optimistic about Chandler so we're just hoping for a steal there at LT, an improved interior line, an at least the status quo from Bell that we've had at RT.

I thought Bell was going to get Cam killed in a few games last season, like when he gave up in the Bills game. He flat out gave up. He wasn't even lined up properly, and wasn't using any technique. It was stunning. But then there were other games where I thought he did a nice job and looked fine. The slower the DE, the better Bell tends to look. The problem is that he dosn't back up quickly enough or properly sometimes imo. I think it's because he's clumsy and sometimes looks very fatigued. It makes him sloppy. If you're too far back, or not far back enough and you're not anchored the DE is going to make you look silly.

I actually think Williams should be able to beat out Bell for the RT spot, but Williams isn't much better. I think Willimas is quicker and has, or had, better technique.

I'm just saying....he physically looks like he's been putting in a ton of off season work.  I wouldn't write him off just yet.  Not saying he's all pro...just he might still have some potential left to be fulfilled.

Sounds so far like everyone is saying that it's impossible for him to improve.

I will reserve judgement.  My glass is half full voice tells me that we are in year 3 of the UDFA Bell experiment.  He has started consistently for a couple of years and has been decent at times, but has also been pretty bad.  Actually sometimes he has been very, very bad.   But to put it in perspective how many UDFA have that much success and can perform at this level and start for an NFL franchise.  He also got better in his second year and I heard he worked a lot on conditioning during this past offseason and dropped around 20 lb give or take.  I do think his heart is in it.

All that said, I dont blame Bell.  I think he works to get better and does try.  Unfortunately, his better is arguably marginal and his ceiling seems to be very low.  If anything I blame the FO, salary cap hell, etc... for not being able to bring in more talent.

I don't think people are wrong for not liking him and wanting him out but we dont really have a viable alternative at the moment.  Hopefully the coaches know something we don't.  I for one am pulling for him to turn the corner.  Not only for Bell but for the Panthers.
