Hall of Fame Enshrinement

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

On ESPN now, and yes I'm watching.

This year's class:

- Rod Woodson

- Bruce Smith

- Randall McDaniel

- Derrick Thomas

- Bob Hayes

- Ralph Wilson

Thomas and Hayes will both be represented by their sons.

I love these ceremonies. There's always a load of great stories, and it never fails to bring back great memories of football from year's past.

Yep. I'm a fanatic

Woodson had a great commercial some years back where he talked about how as a kid he was constantly running because his older brothers gave him such a hard time. He ended it by thanking them, because if it weren't for them he might have just been average.

And then with a smile he added "...like you two"

(little brothers everywhere understand) :D

Carl Peterson speaking on Derrick Thomas:

After Derrick's sensational rookie year DC Bill Cowher came to HC Mary Schottenheimer and said he had a great idea. 'What if we dropped Brooks into coverage and brought two rushers from the other side?"

Schotty replied, 'why would we have our best pass rusher running away from the quarterback?'

Brooks had 20 sacks his sophomore year.

Julius Peppers needs to rush the QB Ron.

Great intro by Ted Cottrell.

I'm reminded of a guy named Everett McIver, someone who's not likely to see the Pro Football Hall of Fame anytime soon. McIver will likely only ever be famous for two things. One is getting stabbed with a pair of scissors by Michael Irvin (yep, he was that guy) and the other is being stupid enough while playing left tackle for the Jets to trash talk Bruce Smith.

McIver got Smith so worked up that he wound up blowing right through him and nearly crushing the life out of Boomer Esaiason. Esaiason didn't move for a long time, and Smith stood over him regretfully.

No way I'd have ever trash talked a guy like Bruce Smith. I'd hate to wind up like lying on the field Boomer Esaiason (or standing in a dress like John Ratzenberger).
