Official 7-26 Practice Thread

The good:

CB Carrington Byndom stood out. He came up with a great pass break up coming in from behind the receiver. Next he comes up with a pick six. He was in the hip pocket of the receivers all day long. Then he concluded his day with a fumble recovery.

TE DC Jefferson was targeted several times and showed the potential of a receiving threat at TE.

Kelvin Benjamin stood out again catching a 60 yard TD pass that dropped over the DB's shoulder and was cradled at Benjamin ' s hip while in stride. Another catch was dropped into the zone between 3 defenders near the sideline where Benjamin showed his knack to find the pocket in the zone coverage. Benjamin showed great hands, smooth/deceptive speed, and excellent body control in stride.

Philly Brown showed promise by getting behind the defense with his speed and snagging the ball as he went to the ground. Looks like Brown and Underwood are competing to be the Panthers deep threat.

Marcus Lucas showed nice extension catching the ball at its highest point consistently. Also, showed his ability to sneak through the secondary to get open.

Kalil, Turner, and Silatolu are working extremely well together.

Defense as expected looked sharp and quick. Kuechly has the defense set up and adjusted faster than I have seen any NFL defense set.

The Bad:

The offense showed a lack of focus, precision, and urgency.

Cam is still overthrowing the ball - especially with the sideline throws.

Antoine Cason, Philly Brown, and Kenjon Barner all muffled punts. This is unacceptable, especially when no one is bearing down on them with a rush. They have met their total allowed muff for all of two and preseason. Need to sign a punt returner fast.

Some players stood out on offense, but I am not impressed with them as a unit. Hopefully they come together quickly.

Or they are wanting to concentrate on the quality of coverage and not tweet out every single play which could cause them to miss plays all together.

I for one don't miss all the pointless tweets of every mundane play. They do nothing as far as informing fans without context.

That's easy for someone to say who is at almost every pantbers pre season practice.

but a signature on message board is?

At the end of the day, people are going to do what they are going to do.  As most of us will basically never know each other but for the internet, I don't expect message board members to live by principle, respect, honor or anything else. This is true offline, much less online.  So don't get it twisted, I have not lost any sleep over a message board signature, but I do have a right to voice my opinion, displeasure, etc., just like you have a right to try and ridicule me about the situation.

Actually, I find your response to my point kind of comical.  If that's how you and others roll, then so be it.  Ultimately, I am still going to be me, and the good thing about that is that people always know what they're going to get whether it be on or offline.

As most know, I was pretty upset about the guys we let go during the offseason. I know it wasn't possible to keep all of them, but IMO, Ginn and Mitchell were priorities.

I still feel we aren't going to replace either of them with anyone currently on this roster. My impression from reading some of the recaps herd is that even "fast" guys like Underwood and Philly Brown still aren't Ginn-fast. And that sucks...

You miss the point that pointless tweets of every mundane play are football porn.

I'm sitting here watching NFLN and they're interviewing Luck... holy hell is that one lame weird awkward dude in an interview. Just comes off as he's trying way too hard to force the whole 'gosh golly gee shucks' image.

That's one part of Cam I think we take for granted. He's just a cool dude in general.

Yep we will see 5 years from now who they say is the quarterback of the future. I said it before Luck doesn't have the resume that Cam has. I really like both quarterbacks I just think our quarterback will be the one to bring us multiple championships.

83 Marcus Lucas taking a Cam overthrow out of the air at its highest point at 1:02.

Clearly 3 receivers standing out when it comes to the red zone passing game. Kelvin Benjamin, Jerricho Cotchery, and Marcus Lucas.

Wasn't it Jerricho Cotchery who made Phillip Rivers a star at NC State after Torry Holt left?

You are correct. Cotchery was Rivers target from 2001 to 2003. Prior to that it was Koren Robinson in 2000 and 1999 for NC State. Tory Holt was 1997 and 1998. Holt never played with Rivers.

it sucks losing his speed and return game, but he was almost a one trick pony. Perhaps if he had more time to grow with Cam he could expand on what he could do, but at the the end of the day the gay was super fast and dropped the ball way too often. Was watching the Saints @ Panthers last night, and our opening drive, Cam through the ball a tad behind Ginn but Ginn couldn't get a crap, went in the air, and was picked. He also dropped way too many balls down the field for big plays.

I wish we could have keeped him, but the thing is we are a cap strapped team and what we would have had to outbid for Ginn and Mitchell to stay here would have definitely exceeded their value. Why not do what we did last year, where we signed below average free agents that everyone doubt's but turn out to be good players like Ginn and Mitchell? We did it last year, why not do it again to further relieve our cap? Why over pay for players when we are trying to recover from over paying players?

I really don't think I have blind faith on this one I believe I have legitimate points
