Dexter re-watch

Yep I've been bored. Started over on this series. I know the popular opinion is that the show went downhill quickly after season 4. For the most part I agree. Having just finished season 6 (DDK) I can safely say that season was much, much worse than I remember.

 

To my surprise, however, was how I enjoyed season 5 the second time around. I remember hating that season when it aired. I would have loved for Dex to end up with Lumen instead of Hannah at the end. It would have made so much more sense. Yes, she was a highly annoying character for the first third of the season, but I believe she became my favorite Dexter bimbo.... much better than Lila, Hannah, the cashier in Nebraska (wtf was that about?) or maybe even Rita (who was a total nag before she left the show). The way Lumen left kinda pissed me off at the end.

 

Season 4 is still the best, imo. 3 and 6 are tied for worst.

i liked season 3 a lot.  i thought it was a little less goofy than season 2, but season 2 had a more gripping premise.  it was nowhere near as bad as 5+

 

season 5 was a glorified lifetime movie.  a shitty version of I Piss on Your Grave

I just think it was the Miguel character that killed it for me. He got on my nerves worse than Lila.

 

As far as being goofy, I kinda enjoy how it gets goofy at times to remind the audience that it is a dark comedy at its core. I think they got away from that in 5-7, then brought back a little in season 8.

Was one of the best shows on TV when it first aired. Looking back I'm surprised how fast it lost steam. I didn't really like season 3 and after Rita's death in season 4 it never could top that emotionally.

the heroin addiction storyline is why season 2 can never be better than season 3

 

miguel and lila pretty much cancel each other out.  jimmy smits performance was hands down better than lila though, so i could make that argument for giving him the edge.

Yeah, on the rewatch, there's foreshadowing out the ass that I didn't pick up on the first time around.

Obviously it started going down hill after 4.  However I actually liked Ray Stevenson's character and the chemistry with Dex and him was pretty cool.   He was a good bad guy.

 

They screwed up with the show, they should have had him on the run early, like season 5 or 6 and change locations maybe overseas or something.

Yeah that whole robocop thing could have gone into season 6 instead of that tooth fairy episode.

I never watched the show until this past week, I'm at s3e7...so thanks for the spoiler alert...

 

btw Rita went on a power trip as soon as her husband died and thought she could control Dex....can't stand her....glad to read she dies.
