Brought the family to Alaska to visit.

Spent the weekend fishing out of Seward.

Got lots of Silver salmon; and rock fish.

Made me miss Alaska fishing.

Will be back on the Golf Coast in a few days.

gotta go 60 miles out of seward for good halibut fishing.

I'd rather spend more time fishing when I'm here for such a short visit.

Yea I understand.  I havent been myself, and I'm not sure of the town notorious for the best halibut fishing in the world but I have a couple friends that have been and I have gotten to enjoy the fruits of their labor and no other fish, restaurant or not, can compare.  He told me they would catch them and the ship would filet them right then and there then flash freeze them.  They would also eat it sushi style fish they caught 30 minutes prior.  The salmon is also one of the best in the world.

How does one troll and bottom fish at the same time?

2 different fishing polls.  You drop an ancre and just drift in circle while deep see fishing.

If you deep see fishing and you will always notice how fishing line is getting away from you.  Currents are very strong, lots of time they'll take trolling line and drift it 20-30 feet from a boat.

Gotcha...so it's more of a drift than an actual troll. I was envisioning trolling at 5-8 mph with the bait/lures skipping on the top of the water and then someone trying to bottom fish at the same time.

Last year we went out and had a 40lb. king that we brought to the boat only to be bit in half by a big a$$ shark as the captain tried to gaff it. Scared the sh*t out of all of us.

Ya can get halibut out of Seward, but Homer is the best place to go out for halibut. Ya don't have to go out as far as you would going out of Seward, and bigger/better halibut.

Kings usually swim near reef and I will use live menhaden (their favorite food) as bait.
