On the Jonathan Stewart cap hit talk....

Not sure I follow ... cap hit doesn't exceed dead money until 2016.  Doesn't dead money drop to the cap if he is cut?  Perhaps they can spread the dead money over a couple years?

How does that work?

You can't really cut Stew next season, his Dead money exceeds his cap hit by 5.3 million so there's no savings to talk about. You could cut him after the next 2 season (in 2016) to save a mere 2.2 million.

Even with a June 1 cut in 2015 you're saving virtually nothing that year to go towards Cam and then counting 5M in dead the next for your troubles. In short: savings don't happen until 2016

I'm not saying the Panthers will get more cap space, they won't because his dead money is accelerated to next year.

I'm saying that "big picture" they save a substantial amount of money over the next few years if he is cut next year.

Feel bad for the guy, can't imagine how frustrated he must be.

Say what you want, but Stew works his ass off and he's a good guy - probably tweaked his hammy working his ass off.

I was mostly responding based on saying his cut would help with Cam.

Sadly, the smallest hit on our cap before we can rid ourselves of Stew is 20.1M over 2014-2016 and long term we're talking about saving 2.2M in 2016 and his 8.25M cap hit in 2017

I just hope he can bring some sort of value over the next two years to make up for such a crap situation

wish I could remember who tried to give me sh!t about him being better than Williams. at least DW plays.

It wasn't me!! I always thought Mr. Glass Ankles wasn't up to the contract he got at that time. Still isn't. I remember arguing too with those wanting to cut DeAngelo because Stewart was so much better. smh

He plays a devalued position and we are paying him like a #1 WR.  I can't tell you how much I hate Marty Hurney,

I get the feeling that Stewart knows that he is getting paid if he plays or not, so I do not expect to see the Thomas Davis work ethic and attitude in him.  He is rich for having a good season a few years ago.  I sometimes think he is trying to get cut so he can double dip..
