Kug to have back surgery Aug 8th, done for year

How many of the people here writing off this young man for problems beyond his control also wrote off Thomas Davis for the same thing is my question. But no, let's not talk about how many haters THAT man had for sucking up all our precious cap space and not being on the field. Give it up, Thomas. You're done.

But seriously, best wishes to the young man. There's no indication that his injuries have come from a lack of effort. Don't judge a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes. I'm sure he's more disappointed about this situation than any of us could even imagine but we've still got people here acting like he stole their lunch money.

Even if he never steps on the field, this dude was/is a Panthers player and I support him. I hope he can come back and prove some people wrong. And I hope I am still around if he turns it around and is able to get out there and be a productive player for us so the mysterious group of guys that can say "I never gave up on ya Kugzilla!" can appear from the ashes of this conversation like they have for TD.

Ya'll are some sunshine fans.

why can't people just not like to be wasting draft picks?

You're asking for perfection, which is unreasonable. Why can't people just be reasonable? How many teams do you know of that every year nail every pick in the draft?

We had 5 picks in 2013, and no 3rd rounder. That whiff hurt us a lot more than in most drafts.

And remind me how we did in that one playoff game? And remind me who we have starting at LT? And remind me who we have starting at RT for that matter?

Naw, he's doing a bang-up job.

The team was so good they didn't even have to play to get into the 2nd round of the playoffs.

We have Chandler and Bell starting at OT. I'm not sure why you'd need reminding of that. I'm sure that you've bitched ad nauseam about it.

Remind me, how many teams nail 4-5 draft picks every year? Remind me, did you know that Jordan Gross was retiring after this last season? Remind me, how did we do in the playoffs the last five years? Here, I'll answer those for you in order: None, you didn't, and we hadn't made the playoffs since 2008.

Gettleman has drafted a perennial Pro Bowler at the DT position in Star Lotulelei, a position that was one of the weakest spots on the teams for a season or three (Nick Haydn or Corvey Irvin, remind me which one of them was better?). He took over a team in cap Hell and helped them to the playoffs for the first time in 5 years with smart, cheap FA signings (Mitchell, Ginn Jr, Mikell, Hixon, Florence, Blackburn, etc). He has successfully drafted two 1st round talents in the 2nd round in back-to-back drafts (Kawann Short + Kony Ealy), a round that Marty Hurney regularly whiffed in. AJ Klein, a 5th round selection, is looking like he's going to be the heir apparent to Chase Blackburn's position with our coveted front 7.

The biggest knock that Gettleman has against him is releasing nearly the entire receiving corps that ranked 29th in the NFL. Oh mah good Gawd almighty![/JIMROSS] So who did he replace a 35yr old WR that the team still relied on as a #1, a blocking WR that couldn't catch unless he was trying to pose for a highlight reel, an another old WR, and a ST ace that before their time with the Panthers was looking like yet another 1st round bust? He went and drafted a 6'5" 240lbs man beast, signed two veteran WRs with sure hands and solid route running capabilities, and a 6'1" WR with a 4.31 40yd dash. Call me crazy, call me naive, call me beautiful, but something tells me that maybe, just maybe the Panthers WRs will rank higher than 29th in the NFL this coming season.

If the two of you placed half of the demand that you do on Gettleman on yourselves, you'd be millionaires by now.

maybe thier frame filled out later too. . genetically I would think the guy that already shows girth in the 11th grade is superior to one that doesnt show it until sophomore year in college. Not sure bout that though

Possible.

it's also valid to say the reason he went to a smaller school was because he's from Africa and couldn't adjust quick enough for the SAT's.

which was the valid point. for god's sake nick saban gave the stamp of approval on this guy.

One of the best GMs of all time drafted Ryan Leaf.  Heck, plenty of people with real football knowledge believed Robert Gallery would be one of the best linemen in the NFL.

No matter how well-prepared you are or how good your staff is, drafting will always be something of a crap shoot, especially once you get past the second round.

Sucks for Kugbila. Hopefully he gets a chance on next year's 90. I've got zero expectations at this point so if he makes next year's 53 as depth, then that's all upside.

The bigger issue is Stewart pulling a hammy. God dammit, I always try to remember the glory of our 2008 run game when I hear that Jonathan is hurt again, but at this point, I'm honestly starting to believe that he's just trying to get out of Spartanburg.

My thinking is that was that a wasp stung him in the ass and they are being extra precautionary. Probably wrapping him in bubble wrap too.

I don't see how he'd get the opportunity to pull a hammy right now.

Justify the Kugbila pick in the 4th round. Do it, and I'll shut up.
