Cam Newton still limited in mobility

Cam Newton's recovery from ankle surgery has gone well by all accounts. With training camp starting this week, we'll get to see how close he is to Full Newton.

The Charlotte Observer notes that Newton was throwing to receivers last week in Greensboro, N.C., but he was limited in his mobility. That is to be expected less than four months removed from major surgery, but it's a reminder that this was a major surgery.

Newton's ankle surgery has surprisingly received relatively little attention this offseason. Perhaps that's because he was able to participate in some of the team's 7-on-7 drills in mid-June. Or because there's been so much attention on the changes in Carolina at wide receiver and on the offensive line. Maybe it's because Newton looks like Superman, and we all assume he can discard surgeries like arm tackles.

The Panthers are asking Newton to handle more responsibility than ever this year. He needs to carry an otherwise flawed offense. That will be a lot easier if he maintains his explosiveness as a runner, which means we'll be watching his ankle closely in August.

Healing ankle with shaky offensive line? Not good.

Wanted to make a thread about this but just decided against it. This cannot be good news. Depending on where the pain is, he might be able to play considering I always have pain in my ankles (I play soccer once a week and I do a lot of running but I have had no surgery). This might be a very long season guys.

So is this another one of those offseason threads where people get worked up over nothing?

There's literally like no new information in that article.

It basically says he's in the final stage of recovery, but taking basic precautions.

As at 3 days ago, Cam was experiencing some pain on pushoffs and pain is never a good sign.

Newton was more active on his dropbacks Wednesday night than he was at last month’s practice, but he still gets an occasional sharp pain on strong push-offs, Costa said.

But, but but...!!!

Hmmm. So are you saying we are getting worked up over nothing?

His ankle is completely healed, otherwise they wouldn't have cleared him for full participation weeks ago. He's played with pain in it all his career. At least it's repaired now. Instead of playing with pain in a damaged ankle he'll be playing with pain in a recovering ankle.

He's gonna be fine. He's Superman.
