Charlotte Hornets Memorabilia

Recommended Posts

A trash can, a Hornets Fan Parking Only sign, a hat, and a shirt commemorating the first draft in 1988. I was 2 during the first season. I grew up with the Hornets. They were my first love so to speak. I was so attached to the team that I was a New Orleans Hornets fan until Tom Benson bought the team and slowly my interest was swayed from them. For the last 2 years I've kept up with the Bobcats and now I'm so excited about the return of the Hornets.

Thanks to everybody for posting all of this memorabilia. After learning that the Orlando Magic opened their own Hall of Fame awhile back, is it too premature to ask when the Hornets might expect to do the same?

I know the team's history is very young, but considering Orlando came along around the same time, it doesn't seem too off.

It all depends on whether they want to make one, but I think we have more than enough stuff to put in there. The story of how the Charlotte Hornets came to be is fascinating enough.

Muggsy, Dell, Zo, LJ easily make the first ballot. You can have a section talking about Alexander Julian and the influence of his design on 90s pop culture. The unique facility (at the time) that was the Charlotte Coliseum. You can include the return of pro basketball, a section dedicated to the Bobcats, and the return of the brand.

If you walk around TWC you'll see nods to NC basketball history all over the concourse. If you can bring that in to one Hall of Fame area, you'd have a really neat place to visit.

There are a bunch of things that a potential Hall of Fame could add.

- The shoes Zo wore when he made the shot against the Celtics.

- The original letter from Shinn to Stern submitting an application for the team or something like that

- Maybe a shrine to MJ, Muggy, Dell, etc. Electing them to the hall might be nice too, I agree with @cbarrier90

Right now, just having a mural again would be awesome. The hall idea seems way too far in the distance. Maybe one of Kemba, Al and Lance.

Alonzo and LJ do not deserve to be in a Hornets HOF. Yes we all have fond memories of them but Zo was here for only 3 years and LJ for 5. The bar should be set higher for eligibility. For the Hall of Fame to have meaning, players need to be here longer then a cup of coffee and provide more to the team over the long term.

With the exception of Dell and maybe Muggsy we really don't have anyone that is deserving for a HOF as an individual player.

ZO's shot was huge at the time and to the point in history would probably be referee to as "The Shot" the play in the HOF? Yes. The player? no

Zo can kick rocks with his Heat loving self.

Not our fault Shinn wouldn't pay the guy or LJ. He came to the team charity golf outing a couple weeks ago.

MJ said from the start he was going to try and get all the alumni involved. I took that as trying to right the wrongs of Shinn and Bob Johnson. Reaching out to those guys who were such a big part of the team's early rise helps, regardless of how tumultuous their contract disputes were.
