FIFA Career Mode Thread

I know we have the Nervanda forum for gaming, but I thought a FIFA thread might be a good addition here. This is a place for FIFA gamers to discuss their career modes. Bargain buys, incredible deadline additions, guys you can't live without or maybe ones who are rated highly and fetch a pretty penny but you just don't like playing with?

Recently I started an Inter Milan Manager Mode, and decided to shake up the team quite a bit. I took a risk bringing in a lot of young promising talent, building for the long haul. Sold most of my veterans for what I could get for them, and brought in a couple of key additions defensively at the first deadline (Inigo Martinez, Luke Shaw). With my defense where I wanted to be, the focus was to increase the value on a couple of the younger guys I had and sell big during the Summer of year two. I was able to do just that, and turned my attention to getting a world class shot stopper and goal scorer. Icardi was fine, and being only 21 has loads of potential, but I wanted someone who was stronger in the box.

My first big signing was the shot stopper. Negotiated for awhile to get the price where I thought I could still go after my World Class #9. Took several weeks, but finally signed Courtois for 24.5m dollars and my existing GK. I tried making a move for a couple of ST, but by and large the values weren't favorable to me, so I just decided to roll with Icardi and Alverez who aren't a bad combo mind you. I exited the window without finding that World Class ST and decided to try again during the January window.

Then on the January Deadline Day I was able to strike gold....

This one was more difficult then grabbing Courtois once he went back to Chelsea tbh. Apparently Everton somehow bought Lukaku for good (not really sure how they were able to manage that tbh). Anyway, he was hurt during the preseason, and missed significant time. During the time he was out, Everton played Naismith up top and he became more than serviceable for them apparently. When Lukaku came back (I was keeping eyes on his stats throughout the Fall 2014, I noticed he wasn't starting every game as he had been before so I thought I might be able to make a run at him. Negotiated all of the January Window, and bled my transfer fee completely dry to get him, but finally was able to get a deal done for 18 million dollars plus Alverez who at the time was values anywhere from 18-25 million by my staff. Couldn't be more thrilled to land him. His strength and ability in the air is unreal, and at 20 years old he'll be a mainstay on my team for a LONG time.

Anyway, exiting out of the January 2015 window, here's what my starting 11 looks like. Coming together quite well, and if I can manage to not get sacked for another season I may just mess around and win the Champions League in a year or two once these pups grow up!

Best part is with selling vets on large contracts I was able to create a ton of wage room (400K per week right now). So I could either bring in a big time star with Milan heading back to Champions League it looks like, or save it for when Lukaku, Kovacic, Shaw, Martinez and Bakkali come asking for big raises.

Lol this is very much a niche thread but I too signed Lukaku. He's an absolute beast. The one gripe I have with Fifa is when a player I love decides to leave for no damned reason and there is nothing I can do about it. That doesn't make the game better for me.

Yep. My second year of RM Manager mode Ronaldo missed home.....where's he sold to you ask since no club in Portugal would have the money for him? fuging PSG....

Is there any difference from last years FIFA? I want to get the game but I'm skeptical. Fortunately this isn't Madden where they make no real innovations and to be honest it got so bad that gameplay is for the hardcore. What I love about fifa is that a seasoned vet and a new player can have a competitive match.

Fifa 15 isn't out yet, it usually doesn't release until October in the US. The game makes small improvements every year but not all of them are actually good. The menus have become so robust and slow. I rather have a basic menu that loads instantly and responds instantly.

Sometimes they put things in the game just to fill up the "new features" list on the back of the box. All I want is to get into games asap and play really crisp gameplay. Updates to AI, formations, and physics is really all I need. Of course the newest names with updated attributes is a big draw too. And the promoted teams to be in the correct leagues.

One thing I miss from the World Cup game was some of the arcade like gameplay. In 2002 players had "star" attributes that made them way better than others at certain things. Like star passers had really good curve and star sprinters could blow past defenders. In World Cup 94 every nation had a unique "super shot" and USA was a melting pot so different players had different shots. It may have been a little goofy and unrealistic but it felt like it's own game.

Wait a few months and grab Fifa 15 for PC. Download mods and thank me later...

I'm doing a my player Career Mode. With 1860 Munich, but got loaned out the 1st season to FC Metz, but now back at 1860. Playing as a box-to-box RM. got my rating up to 73 or 74 right now i think.

Corner kicks are where i've done most of my damage as far as assists and creating chances

Yea Corners are pretty steady way to pad stats once your curve rating gets to a certain point. My 10 is wicked on Corners and set pieces. Up to an 81 or so I think, and I'm expecting some big clubs to be looking at me in the next transfer window.

i'm doing a my player right now.  i just like playing striker lol it's so fun.  started out with san jose earthquake, loaned out to 1860 munich where i dominated and my team was dominant too, but i got injured and had to miss like the last two months of the year.  then i went back to san jose earthquake and won the us open cup and the mls with them.  so after that i asked for a transfer and got transferred to chelsea.  i've only gotten like 5 appearances with them but i scored 4 goals in those 5 games.  hopefully i'll get more playing time this season.  my guy is like a 78 and i also play for the usmnt.

how many seasons do you have to complete before you have the options to request transfer? or is done by player rating?

i'm also on the USMNT. made the World Cup squad, but only got to play in the group stage games before i got sent back to 1860 (wtf?)

Ligue 2 in France was super easy when I was on FC Metz. Winning game 7-0 minimum. Bundesliga 2 is tougher, but still not hard

7-0 at the minimum?  god damn dude bump up that difficulty.  for quakes we won most of our games but they were still pretty close.  most games we won 1-0, 2-1, 2-0, 3-1..... scores like that

    • As I said less than 10 minutes into the game, Boston looks nothing like we're used to seeing. Regardless, any curb-stomping of the Bruins is welcome.  The scorers all got the glory tonight, but all 6 D-men had excellent games. Across the board- Gost, Orlov, Chatty, Walker and, of course, Slavin & Burns.
    • I just tried a few mock draft simulators and this is the only way lol. Nothing else makes sense.
    • No, biggest weakness is pass rush, but I don't think there is a blue chip can't miss DE prospect to take at #1 this year, same as with QB.  But beyond that, moving forward, yea WR is a pretty damn big weakness. We have 1 game this season over 224 yards passing and just traded away our best WR (who wasn't going to re-sign here anyways).  That WR no longer on the team was also the only player we've had this year who had over 78 yards receiving in a game.  So again, yea, WR is one of our biggest weaknesses even right now, let alone moving into the future. As I just said in my other post, I love Legette, but he's not going to be a Top 5-10 WR type of guy, Top 15-20 I can see, I think he can be a good #1 WR or an elite #2. After that, what do we have for the future?  Thielen isn't part of it, sure as hell isn't going to be Mingo, and as much as we all like Coker, in no world is Coker as our #2 to Legette as the #1 going be considered as "having weapons" at WR, even with Brooks and Sanders. But put someone like T-Mac into that group, who I genuinely think is going to be a Top 5 WR in this league for a long time, and it changes things.  A Top 5 WR with Legette/Coker as the 2/3, along with Brooks and Sanders, has the potential to be one of the best set of offensive weapons in the league if they reach their potential.
