Your fan fest observations...

lame. I guess since he has a few flaws and a bad game playoff game he deserved to be booed at a fanfest? I mean who cares if he is the leader of our offense, has won us some division championships, a couple NFCCG appearances and a Superbowl appearance.....I mean he played like crap against AZ. Glad our great fanbase showed up today.

Motivation to change the boos to cheers with a W Game 1.

Jarrett looked pretty good, and as someone said, made a nice one-handed catch that garnered a few oohs and ahs.

Goodson seemed to still the show. He looked pretty impressive returning the ball. I'd give him the edge over Beavers, though Beavers made a couple decent catches himself. He's quick, but I still think Goodson gets that position.

Cantwell did indeed look just a bit better than Moore, though he had his share of passes that were off.

I don't know that there is any way Jamall Lee makes the team. I've been rooting for the guy since we picked him up, but I just don't think he makes it. For that matter, Birmingham didn't impress either.

Fiammetta dropped an easy pass.

Not only did they line Stewart up wide, but they later even lined Jamall Lee up wide. I really think we're going to start seeing more short passes to the backs and letting them work their magic. I'm excited about that.

Brown looked okay, but was indeed getting shoved around a good bit. Taylor was looking very quick in drills. I hope we can keep him. Charles Johnson looked pretty good too, and tipped a ball from Delhomme (of course, no one cheered Johnson, they just booed Delhomme -- I hate our fans, sometimes).

Chris Harris was hitting pretty hard in the limited time he was out there. He had a tough hit on someone, though I can't remember whom (Lee, perhaps?). James Anderson also made a few nice stops and had a "sack".

Captain looks pretty quick and aggressive. Call me crazy, but I could really see him ending up with the nickelback position.

I'll try to post more notes as I remember them.

good post..

from what i have seen i think brown will not start this season..he has been good but he tends to get taken out the play..johnson has been having a good camp.

i hope mccown and moore get it together because cantwell has been outplaying them both..in TC

So Delhomme throws the ball away to avoid a sack, and gets booed for it? How dumb is our fanbase?

Considering the fact that most people complain about Delhomme holding on to the ball too long or forcing throws, pretty dumb in this case.

Good stuff, thanks!

So who do you see starting if CM is @ NB? Marshall & Gamble with Martin behind one of them?

Nice updates, thanks!

The people booing are idiots and haters because if he had done that against AZ we may have won.

The Jake booing was the most WTH moment I have had at the fanfests I have been too. The guy behind me didn't boo, but here's an example of the level of intelligence of some fans. He says to me, after we had talked a little bit back and forth, "Where the hell is DeAngelo?"

I tell him that he had injured his toe in a previous practice so he likely wouldn't be practicing here, but he would likely be able to play if it was a game.

He looks at me dead serious and says - "I got one word for you. Pussy."

Needless to say I was literally dumbfounded.

The boos were sparse but there were a few. The guy in our section that was booing had a beer in each hand.

My fan fest observations:

1. Frickin Hot...Was nice when the clouds covered the sun and the breeze.

2. Mike Goodson was the best of all the kick returners. He is a tall guy and takes huge quick strides. I'm really excited about him.

3. Ryne Robinson looks much slower than prior to his injury.

4. Stewart didn't show any signs of hurt. He was returning kicks at the beg. of fan fest.

5. Saw a good deal of defensive back drills and Chris Gamble has the worst set of hands out of the whole group, followed closely by Chris Harris. (Gamble also got away with a blatant PI against the number 2 offense)

6. Smitty is a crowd favorite and him and Beason relish it. They both cut up with the fans throughout practice and throughout the autograph session as well.

7. Jake looked sloppy, but I wasn't really impressed with anything the first team offense did. He wasn't working with moose, smith, deangelo or stewart so i'll hold my tongue on his performance.

8. I thought Mccown looked better than Moore during the live scrimmage, and Hunter cantwell....well he just wasn't very accurate.

9. Dan Connor was in on every play it seems. He isn't very fast, but he has deceptive closing speed. He makes me feel better about our depth at MLB.

10. Secondary is going to be weak this year. Expect marshall and c.j. wilson out of place quite a bit.

11. Hilee Taylor looked very fast off the line and got a good push on gross on a couple plays.

12. THE BEST THING ABOUT FAN FEST IS THE AUTOGRAPHS....but not the ones I was lucky enough to get. Seeing a little kid get one of his heroes autographs is a very very cool experience. I was lucky enough to have a 2nd row seat and Steve Smith came over towards our section. A little kid behind me ripped off his steve smith jersey and began making his way to the front. Unfortunately, our section turned into a mad house as people young and old tried to get his autograph. I told the kid to give me his jersey and I would get on my chair and see what I could do. Luckilly, Smitty saw the little kid beside me and his jersey and signed it and handed it to him. Cool, cool deal that i'm sure that little kid won't forget.

I don't honestly "observe" much at Fan fest because the practice is more of a show for the fans than a serious effort. That was even more true this year because while all but a few players were practicing, some starters on both sides sat out the scrimmage.

After I had sat there and told the future Mrs what numbers to pay attention to when they started scrimmaging (34, 89, 90, etc) just about everyone i suggested she should watch sat out :sosp:

Learning moment for Milady: Brad Hoover had a nice play and got his usual "Hoooov", at which point she turned to me and said "Why are they booing?" (I explained)

It was a good time, and a few people stood out in drills or had noteworthy moments (Mike Goodson, Kenny Moore, Dwayne Jarrett, Everette Brown, Captain Munnerlyn) it was largely uneventful in the "serious football" category.

The most fun moment actually came before the practice, when a little boy that looked about 3 or 4 got on the big screen with one of the announcers, then got camera shy and took off down field. The announcers started calling out his yardage ("he's at the 50,...the 40...). The audience cheered him on all the way to the goal line. Then, after a pause, he ran back

His parents have probably told that story at least a dozen times already, and I imagine it'll get told over and over again for the rest of his life :D
