Pretty big day in Panther fandom history. This will help attract new fans regionally, and give existing fans some amenities other teams have had for years, with pre/post game, training camp, weekly shows. Looks like I'll be keeping Time Warner after all, I had planned on cancelling.

Come on DirecTV! Pick this poo up!

Here is how this works in Southern California.

TWC has exclusive broadcast rights to both Los Angeles Dodger and Los Angel;es Laker broadcasts.

They negotiate the rights to other providers. As a Dish Network subscriber I haven't had Laker games for 2 years as Dish won't pay TWC's price. This year, all of Los Angeles/SoCal area who isn't on TWC don't get Dodger broadcasts because NO ONE has paid TWC's asking price as they signed a huge deal with the Dodgers this past offseason. Fully 70% of fans can't see the games!

I switched to DirecTV Monday and gained back the Lakers and added Sunday Ticket too but am still waiting on the Dodgers.

Bottom line if you look at the Yankees  YES Network and the same in Philly, Houston etc huge groups of fans are fugged by stubborn providers not paying the cash for broadcast rights fom the competition.

Pray DirecTV steps up!

I wonder how many more people will ask "does this mean I can't watch pre season games?" when that has been answered several times already.

No it hasn't.  It has been answered for people with access to WCCB.  But not for people outside the Charlotte area who previously had access to the Panthers tv network through a local affiliate.

Maybe I've read it wrong, but this is what I understood: the games are simulcast on their normal stations. This deal gives this cable channel exclusive access to pre and post game shows, along with some other goodies. The list of TV affiliates for games has not changed (yet)

i thought i remembered this...

"Time Warner Cable Arena is located in Charlotte, North Carolina, the home of the NBA's Charlotte Hornets. In April 2008, the then-Bobcats reached a naming rights deal with Time Warner Cable, the Charlotte area's major cable television provider; the arena was named for the cable provider in exchange for the release of the team's television rights, which had been on the TWC co-owned Carolinas Sports Entertainment Television for its first season, which failed to find much cable coverage in the Charlotte market outside of Time Warner systems and went dark after a year, and then News 14 Carolina which was limited to only the North Carolina side of the market, until the arena naming rights deal was made. The team moved to the new Fox Sports South sub-feed Fox Sports Carolinas and SportsSouth with the 2008-09 season, allowing coverage through both the Carolinas."

TWC is a joke and the Panthers are dumb as fug for doing this deal.  I do hope the Panthers didn't just sign over the rights to their Pre-Season games to this company.  From the sounds of it it seems this amateur hour channel won't have them exclusively, but it is unclear from that press release as to how this effects the large portion of Panthers fan base who are neither TWC subscribers or living in Mecklenburg County area.
