Explain to me: Why Lance makes the Hornets that much better.

He has a chance to be a Lebron light.

He has the potential to become a 15-7-7 guy who can defend three positions.

He has a chance. He has to keep that chip on his shoulder though

I think he is Lebron with good athleticism not elite.

Granted his athleticism is what makes him so good, but their games are similar.

Lance will get to the rim like Lebron he just won't dunk it everytime.  In fact he lays it up 90% of the time, but does do a great job of finding contact and still finishing like Lebron.

I haven't been able to see a ton of BCat/Hornets games, but I've kept tabs all along. Also I am not a NBA X/O guy, so teach me.

How does Lance help from an X/O perspective?

Same for our other signings.

Read this.  Really good breakdown of what he is going to bring.

Well the trick to being a good offensive ( and for that matter defensive) team is to be able to alleviate various defensive pressures by having a lot of complimentary offensive skill sets to counter act.

Primarily last season the only guy that could really isolate from the perimeter was Kemba.  Most teams knew that if they could shut down Kemba and Big Al they would win.

Stephenson is a great break-you-down sort of player, but he's not a one trick pony.  He can shoot the rock and he's adept at capitalizing on the pick and roll through passing.  He's fantastic at finishing at the rim and a great defender.

With a starting  lineup of:

Walker

Stephenson

Williams

Zeller

Jefferson

You can effectively run pick and rolls through either guard, through BigAl or Zeller, and on either sides of the court.  Stephenson or Walker are also really good at getting into the middle of the defense setting up kick out/ swing/ swing sort of plays especially with upgraded shooting.

With the signing of Stephenson/ and Williams we've effectively improved our size across the floor and in the process have masked Kemba's height.

SG Stephenson 6'5

SF Williams 6'8

PF Zeller 6'11/ 7 ft

C  Jefferson 6'10/ 6'11

Lance can create his own shot. period.

There are only a handful of guys in the entire league that can reliably be given the ball and go get a basket. Sometimes players like Carmelo can devour the ball and be a ball hog when they take too many of those shots, but you have to know when and where to do it.

The only guy we had that can do that is Kemba, but you are asking a lot of your PG to bring it up the floor, create for everyone else during the game and be the finisher at the end of the game. Lance is someone Kemba can lean on to create assists for others and drill it from 3. Lance is a better 3pt shooter than Hendo. Teams were able to give Hendo space and play off him because he rarely ever took a 3pt shot, maybe 1-1.5x a game.

to put it in a few words... Lance'll make em dance, LANCE'LL MAKE EM DANCE!!!!

One other thing. He can play a little PG.

Last year, there were certain PG that gave Kemba some trouble defensively. Williams from the Nets comes to mind. I think Andre Miller gave him some problems a couple of games too. Kemba struggled with more physical PG who would use their size and strength.

I think we wanted Livingston because of this fact. Signing Roberts who is 6'1 180 pounds doesn't help in this regard.

So if we are playing at team with a physical PG that Kemba is struggling to defend, I can see some scenarios where Lance is running the point and can match opposing PG physicality.

His versatility is going to help so much on both ends

Just keep in mind the talent around him allowed him to shine. Indy created a ton of match up problems for teams. More attention might go to him defensively which means someone besides Bil Al needs to step up and score.

If we signed up to 5 year deal, like the Pacers wanted to do, I'd question this signing. This is really a great situation for both parties. Lance has a reputation to repair, and Charlotte gives him a chance to be a superstar because he won't be sharing the ball with George. Plus, this short contract gives him the opportunity to be a free agent during an off-season where he will get a ton of great bids, if he can prove himself over these next few seasons. I see Lance taking this opportunity and making the most of it. Dallas had the same idea with him, but just couldn't pull the trigger because of the Chandler signing.

I'm really excited about this move because of how the contract is structure. Again, if we did a 5-year deal putting his next chance to be a free agent in situation where the money may not be there, I think he becomes bitter and doesn't capitalize on this opportunity. Just a smart move by MJ and Cho.
