Hardy found guilty

Why does everyone assume the Panthers are going to:

  • cut
  • trade
  • let contract expire

or do anything else that ensures him no longer being a Panther as a result of this? The Panthers have had many players over the years who've stuck around after misdemeanor convictions. Geez, if Jerry Richardson wanted a team of nothing but choirboys, he'd have the NFL equivalent of the Washington Generals. Nice guys do finish last, I don't care what you may think. And there aren't enough guys out there to field a team if the Panthers decided they were going to toss anyone who may have a brush with the law.

Because we all know that they are not keeping both Johnson and Hardy due to cap issues so this just tilts things against Hardy.  He wants a boatload of money anyway so who knows if we can sign him if we wanted to.  We could trade him I think but won't cut him since everything is guaranteed already.  So it is much easier to keep Johnson who is under contract and not sign Hardy than it is to sign Hardy and get rid of Johnson.

Bottom line is this.

Greg will be suspended by Goodell at least a couple of games. If the team can levy its own punishment after that, they will, but it will be minor. Greg will play out his franchise contract here. He will sign as a free agent somewhere else next year (probably oakland), and we will get a compensation 3rd rounder.

At least that's how I see it.

Pretty accurate.  Unless Hardy wins his appeal and really turns over a new leaf aka becomes a completely different person, I don't see why the Panthers would keep him past this season.  He's too big of a risk to sign to an expensive contract long term.

Why would any team trade for a guy that might be spending time in jail in another state ?

That's a great question but stranger things have happened.  If the Panthers could dump his salary and get something of value in return for him, like a high draft pick, they should jump all over that.  Not saying it will, but it's a possibility.

This isn't the NBA, trades for high $$ players in the NFL don't happen. And if he did go to trial and was convicted by a jury, the Panthers would get nothing in trade.

Hardy has more upside than CJ, regardless of his off-field issues.

Get rid of Hardy... big mistake for Carolina.

Hardy might be fuggin up to ask for a jury trial.  If he is convicted there he could get anywhere from 150 days to a year jail time.  And it will look even worse on his record having been essentially convicted twice.

I think it's an extremely small chance a jury finds him guilty.       I believe they'll see a guy trying to defend himself from a coked up,  drunk woman that refused to leave his place.

I agree with you Pox.

What happens if he pleads out to a simple communicating a threat charge before it goes to a jury trial, gets yet another suspended sentence and probation?

What now, all you Panther GM's?

I was convicted of DV. Same charge. You guys have no idea how hard it is to win, even when you did absolutely nothing wrong. Defending yourself is not wrong. I don't care how big you are. I support hardy until I see some real proof and not a money hungry coke heads rehearsed answers. He will be here next year because I garuntee right now all he wants to do is hit someone.

If you in a closed off enviroment where you can't run, and the woman is blocking the only way out...and she starts beating and scratching on you every time you get close to leaving?

I saw a ghetto fool beating on her bf outside of walmart one time.  She wasn't just slapping,  she was balling her freaking hand up into  fist  and just laying into his face,  this poor guy was taking a nasty beating...        she was screaming "GO ON AND HIT ME BACK, I DARE YOU, I'LL HAVE YOU THROWN IN JAIL SO FAST IT'LL MAKE YOUR HEAD SPIN"              He just stood there letting her pound on him,  he apparently knew he had no right to defend himself against the female.  By the time the police got there,  they were gone.

If the woman is blocking the only way out, i.e standing in the doorway, then she cannot approach you without leaving the doorway. In that case wait at a distance from her.

Nope. Thought the samething when he was tagged. So did many other posters.

You thought that he was going to be charged with assaulting a female, communicating threats, found guilty by a judge, and appeal for a jury trial?

Why have you been wrong so many other times? :(

I've been here for years and still don't get it. I'm not sure if it is a Panthers thing or just a NFL fan thing, but people here are obsessed with finding ways to get rid of their best players. Getting rid of one of their best players, and right when he is entering his prime, ohhhh yea.
