Hardy court thread : for all things that happen in court today

Just thinking to myself how a Hardy suspension would affect our cap situation. 6 games would be a big chunk of checks. Did find this.

Also found this. From a ray rice article.

Of course, the team and, more importantly, the Commissioner do have the ability to suspend a player. If a player is suspended, the team does get a rebate – in cash and Cap – in the amount of the total of the game checks lost by the player during the suspension. Obviously, assuming any suspension for Rice would only be for a couple of games at most, that’s not likely to be a major amount in this situation.

I think 4 from the Panthers is the most likely scenario. Anything more will get appealed and reduced (prob to 4) by the league.

I'd think JR would want to clean his own house on this one, however, so he's probably already talking to the Ginger Hammer.

I know you're trying to be devil's advocate, but do you really believe Greg Hardy smacked this woman into a wall and picked her up and threw her? And all she had was some bruises on her chest and arms? And she fought him afterwards instead of getting the heck out of there the first chance she could? And called/text him multiple times after the incident?

Come on now, what do you really feel happened? I understand you couldn't really know, but what do you honestly think?

I think...that I have no idea.

And I'm not really playing devil's advocate, just pointing out the stupidity of some of what's being said here.

I'd be willing to bet few if any on this board ever even heard this judge's name before today, but now she's branded because she convicted a player on my favorite team of a crime (which he actually may have committed, not that it seems to matter to anyone much).

The vast majority of the people who know with absolute certainty what happened here really only needed a single detail.  Hardy plays for the Panthers.  If he played for the Saints or the 49ers the same people would probably be cheering right now.

Domestic violence is a messy, nasty thing, and the simplistic approach some folks take to it just makes it all that much worse.

If this had happened to your daughter or someone you cared about, you wouldn't encourage them to do anything within the law to punish the guy?

I have no idea if she's credible or not, but other than the goofy frivolous ones, the notion that a lawsuit hurts someone's credibility is a fallacy.

Domestic violence is one of the absolute nasties, and most difficult things to sort out, that any court ever sees.  About 99% of the time it's all 'he said / she said' with maybe some medical reports thrown in.  The man who are guilty of thos sort of thing are utter scum, and the women who use something like this for personal gain are equally slimy.

Who's who in this case?  No idea, but I do know in a situation like this, a lawsuit doesn't make someone less credible anymore than a football uniform makes them more so.

None of us here knows what really happened.  Most of the people claiming they do are just looking through their homer glasses.

When you clearly state that you are not in it for the money, and then immediately say you are going to sue...yes it does hurt your credibility.

I am not sure how you can see it any other way.

If that was my daughter, the bruises would have been easily explainable.  They'd be from me.  Cocaine, weed with wings, "he ain't seen crazy yet", running from the cops when you're supposedly the victim....don't think it'd be a stretch to say she lacked proper disciplining growing up.

Quite possible.

On the flipside, Hardy's not exactly known for wise judgment, is he?

I said when this forst got reported that it was an unholy mess and who the hell knows what really happened.  Now everyone's gone to court and told their version of events where they were perfect and virtuous and the other side was pure evil.

I'd bet if you were tasked with categorizing the trial transcripts for a library, a significant portion of what came from both sides would fall under 'fiction'.

Bottom Line: Trial's over.  He was found guilty.  Maybe he is, maybe he isn't, but there will be ramifications that come from that.

And yeah, he's never playing for the panthers again after this season.

You are making some very broad assumptions about what people think or do not think.

Just because you have a different opinion does not make the other person a homer with Panther colored glasses.

It is not over, he still has a jury trial to go.

So no one is ever justified in filing a lawsuit?

Honestly, if Hardy's guilty of even half the stuff he's been accused of, he deserves a lawsuit, and a lot worse.

Who knows?
