Badd Newss....now reporting that the taints may cave and make him the highest paid TE...have till 4 pm tomorrow to pull the cash out their ass..... Hope it is a big fail and he gives them the finger..thought they where up against the cap..go fiqure

The Saints aren't "caving". They've always been prepared to make him the highest paid TE ever. I know it's common around here to act like only the Saints have ever had contract disputes, but this is all just business. A long term deal will be done before the deadline, just like it was always going to be, and Jimmy will smile while putting on his uniform.

You better hope so. I don't know why you'd go this far if you were prepared to make him the highest anything. You're talking about a 10mill a year contract either way. Surely this could have been handled better. If you don't pay him, someone else will.

Sounds like Jimmy isn't willing to accept a contract that would just make him the highest paid TE ever. Seems like he's still looking for that elite WR money. Jimmy would be wise to remember that he hasn't faired too well when teams have chosen to stick a top CB on him. Y'all have an elite TE who refuses to accept the fact that he's not an elite WR.

The saints can sign him in 2014 to a cap friendly contract but the problem is that they have back loaded so many contracts which are coming due over the next few years that they will be in cap hell no matter how high the cap goes.  Can they afford him in 2016 going forward.  That is the problem you have when you sign players to win now and don't look down the road.

While I do hope something gets done, it doesn't matter to me if Jimmy plays under the tag or under a new long term deal. None of us know what's been the hang up in the negotiations so while easy to assume that it's about the money a year, I'd almost bet it's more about the structure and guaranteed money.

The reason it's gone this far is because the Saints and Loomis are notoriously tough negotiators. They draw a line and aren't going to go much past it. And that's they way good orginizations are run. Just because Jimmy wanted something, doesn't mean the Saints should have just given it to him just to get something done. They've been offering him contracts since before last season, so it's not like they haven't been trying.

This is the silliest thing I've seen from not just opposing fans, but Saints fans as well. This isn't about Jimmy thinking he's a wide receiver. Its a CBA issue and tight ends not feeling like the tag is fair to their position. There's nothing wrong with what he did, and there's nothing wrong with the Saints stance on things. Both are playing by the rules and it's all business.

As far as Jimmy against CBs, PFF recently wrote an article breaking down Jimmy against CBs and everyone else. Since it's a common myth now that he's so easily shut down by cornerbacks, they put actual numbers to it. Basically, it came out just about how I figured. I mean, if it was so easy to shut him down with a CB, why wouldn't any DC worth anything just do that instead of letting him go off?

I know it's easy to just read something over and over and perceive it as fact, but this simply isn't true. I know every time the Saints sign a contract everyone assumes it's backloaded and they're just kicking the can down the road, but it doesn't always work like that. If more fans had a better understanding of contracts and how they're structured, you'd see there's not many contracts on the Saints books that will hurt them going down the road. Either players will be retained because they're worth they're money, or they'll be cut with little financial reprexussion because they aren't worth the money.

If a contract is signed, and incredibly back loaded, but the majority of the guaranteed money is paid in the first few years, it becomes easy to replace a player that isn't worth the money anymore.

plain what it means if we dont do anything by the deadline as far as a long term deal. i dont understand why its important? cant they just ink a deal if they want to another time?

Nope. Once the deadline passes he has to either play under the tag, or sit out. There can't be a long term deal done until next offseason.

How often was he matched up with a true top flight CB though? I remember Aqib Talib made him virtually disappear when Belichick stuck him on Graham. Most teams can't afford to do that because N.O. has dangerous WRs too and good WRs make the money that they do because they're primarily putting up their stats vs. starting caliber CBs not LBs and safeties.

If Graham doesn't like the way TEs are paid and thinks he should be paid like a WR then he should've became a WR instead.
