Steroids, the missing years

Glad somebody compiled some stats post 2003.

Brett Boone

Brett’s career started in 1992. During his first six seasons he never hit more than 15 home runs. He did that once, while hitting 12 home runs in three different seasons. In 1997 he hit a mere seven home runs.

Suddenly during the 1998 season best known for the McGwire-Sosa home-run race, Boone jumped his power to 24 home runs. Amazingly in 2001 he produced 37 home runs and 141 runs batted in. He had 206 hits which to that point was 51 more than his career high.

His 37 home runs were 13 more than his career high and his 141 runs batted in were 46 more than his career high. Was this just a “career year” that players have? Was this the result of joining the Seattle Mariners ballclub?

Or, was this the result of steroids? The next two seasons he topped the 100 RBI mark as well with homerun totals of 24 and 35. In 2004 he dropped slightly to 24 homeruns and 83 runs batted in. In 2005, he managed just seven home runs and 37 runs batted in. This was his final season in the majors.

    • I just switched to prime video with fanduel south. Will I be able to watch the Canes playoff games still?
    • I mean, you can use that "logic," but the problem is that most practice squad players, backups or average guys don't put the play on film that Wharton did when given their opportunities.  Perhaps you'll end up right, but I don't think that just because a guy has been in a rotation makes him inherently less productive because he gets more snaps. I will say that the KC fans I've seen on social media loved him, and considered him their second best DT,  regardless of his "rotational" status, and generally considered him a dawg, so I'm going to give him the benefit of doubt until he shows otherwise.
    • Did I miss something?  The people we have developing players now are not the ones we've had in the past so I don't know what the heck people are talking about when they say we are not good at developing players right now.  We only have one year to go on.  Canales likes young players or players who are on an upward trajectory, especially in FA this year.  Past QB's and what he's done with Bryce are good examples. Tershawn Wharton - 26 Tre'von Moehrig - 25 Pat Jones II - 26 Bobby Brown III - 24 Michael Jackson - 28 Jaycee Horn - 25 Tommy Tremble - 24 We missed on Milton Williams but he's 26. Everyone else we picked up are on 1 year deals.  The Panthers new front office and Canales absolutely scream developmental team. Pick 8 (stay) Tier 1 Elite - Abdul Carter, Travis Hunter and Mason Graham Tier 2 Elite - Jalon Walker, Mykel Williams, Will Johnson Trade down: There are quite a few really good players that fit us at Edge, DT, S and WR mid to late 1st and high 2nd.  Some combos that would be possible that I really like.  Imagine getting 2 of these guys by trading down. Stark, Pierce Jr, Golden, Scourton, Grant, Emmanwori, Ezeiruaku, Umanmielen, Deone Walker, Harmon and this is just off the top of my head.
