NFL media analyst ranks R.R. @ # 21 coach rankings

I feel like John Fox gets a bad rap around here. He has had a few really good coaching seasons. Remember 2004 starting 1-7 with a key player getting hurt for the season every week and coming back to finish 8-8 and miss the playoffs by 1 game?

In Denver he had a team with The Golden Calf of Bristol at QB and finished 1 win away from a super bowl birth. I'm not saying he's the best coach in the NFL and I know he mailed it in after 2008 here but I still say he's a hell of a coach.

As for RR's ranking that's just the national media. They don't like us. They probably never will. Good thing they don't decide who wins at the end of the season.

I also remember 2006...  when injuries weren't an issue.

Our O Line was decimated by injuries that year. Travelle Wharton tore his ACL the first game and Justin Hartwig missed the whole season. In general that roster was very overrated going into the season though.

Pretty fair. John has coached two different teams to super bowls. So 8 is fair.

Rex has taken the Jets to 3 straight AFCC with the filthy sanchez. So 15 isn't really that bad. The dude can build a great D.

Ron? One season at 12-4,no playoff wins, the other two seasons were losing with a lot of blown games. So still much to prove. Maybe bump him up to 19-20.

and we lost all of our RBs the year before as we made it deep into the playoffs with only 1 legit receiver..   Injuries happen.  Only pointing out 2 key injuries is no excuse.  It isn't for this coaching regime, and it wasn't for Fox either which is why he was run out of town.

He was run out of town after the 18,000 turnover game in the playoffs against Arizona. If you remember after 2006 we had to retool the roster because it just wasn't very good. I will agree that he deserved to be fired after the 2009 season when he stuck with Delhomme but I still say in 2006 the roster he had to play with was a paper championship team. They never gelled as a group that whole season.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this. I look back at that 2006 season and see many holes in the roster. Foster was never the same again after his leg injury in the Bears playoff game 2005. Keyshawn was in his final season and not that effective. I've mentioned the OLine already but Gross had to switch sides after week 1 and we signed Bridges off the street to play RT. Plus Evan Mathis at RG was awful that year and Hangartner ended up as your starting center.

On defense Kris Jenkins was a 380 pound shell of his 330 pound self and Maake Kemoateau was never very good. Dan Morgan got hurt game 1 leaving Chris Draft in the middle to go with Thomas Davis (playing linebacker for the first time ever) and Na'il Diggs who was a free agent signee. In the secondary Ken Lucas had a major drop off after a good 2005 and Gamble was always a little overrated in my mind. Minter was old (his last season) and Sean Williams was nothing. Also Mike Rucker was getting old and Peppers only showed up on national TV against bad teams.

Overall I just don't think that team was any good. Looking back at this post several of our guys that year were in their final season.

We really are the Rodney Dangerfield of the NFL.  No respect.  Cam completely carries our offense since his first day under center - 3rd tier QB.  Rivera leads us to a division championship on his way to winning the NFL coach of the year - #21 rated NFL coach.  LOL!
