NFL media analyst ranks R.R. @ # 21 coach rankings

I think what makes Rivera unique is he is a "players coach" that also is highly respected. That is a difficult thing to pull off. A lot of the time a players coach will end up fired because the inmates run the asylum. I think the fact that Ron played in the league is a big reason why guys enjoy playing for him but at the same time respect his authority as HC.

Fox...riding the coat tails of Peyton Manning.  Overrated

Ryan...what a joke.  a blowhard and a terrible coach.  Has shown nothing.  Overrated

Lovie...defense was all RR and was mediocre at best as a HC.  Overrated

Their rankings are beyond laughable.  A chimp could throw his feces against the wall and come up with a better article than that.

I thought John Fox was always an excellent coach, but every team he had in his later years was plagued by injuries. Not the man's fault.

He's also no longer saddled with a Hurney run FO and a rebuilding team. A coach doesn't succeed or fail in a vacuum. He's just a cog (although a big one) in the machine, and has to fit the organization. He can go from the hot seat to coach of the year, like Ron, or be the scapegoat and get the boot like Fox did in Charlotte. He's an easy target for praise or blame, but it doesn't mean he's the best or the worst. Belichick got fired by the Browns, as in 'you suck Bill', but now he's tagged as the best of the bunch. Sorry, but that turnaround has something to do with the organizations that employed him.

I think the gm s often make or break the head coach.  With that in mind I will give Rivera a pass on his first two seasons here.  If last year proves to be a fluke however, with the talent g man has brought to us, then Rivera may not be cut out to be a head coach.
