Hornets sign Brian Roberts

I repeat: ...it's still too much. Where is he so great at that the stretch 4 had to be him?

If the Hornets wanted Lance Stephenson and he wanted $15M and refused to budge, you know what the Hornets would do? They would cease negotiating with him.

If Marvin Williams required $7M a year, they should've moved on to the next "PF" on their list. Like someone said in the Williams thread, if they were going to pay him $7M, they might as well have just given that to McRoberts if they "really wanted him back" like they claimed.

Williams should've gotten $5.5 - 6M at the most.

No one wanted to even give McRoberts that much, and Williams is a better scorer, but he doesn't bring as much heart, hustle and passing as McRoberts did.

If you can't see the hypocrisy in this deal, check your vision.

It reeks of desperation.

14 million < 15 million

The Hornets saved a million dollars

Not sure about that one.

We could use the rookie exception and sign Stephenson first then go over to sign Vonleh and Hairston (Omega would have to verify if this is allowed).

There is.  There is an exception since 2011 that can be used by teams still under the cap. 2.732 million for this season.

I will venture a guess that this might be that

Now.... someone tell me what that means

According to projected rookie contract numbers, we are only due about 3 mil for Noah and pj so that would be close

I guess some would prefer us not have a true PG on our roster at all? I'm confused by the fuss here. I'm sure if we really want Stephenson we can still find a way to get him.

When it comes to backups you need guys who can

1) score

2) not turn the ball over

Could be. I'm not in the negotiating room, so I have no idea what type of contracts or contract is being drawn up.

I'm just pointing out how uncommon backloaded contracts are in the NBA.

The only two poison pill contracts I can think of are Lin's and Asik's. Imagine that lol.

Back-loaded contracts are actually pretty common in the NBA.  Poison pills are kind of a different story, but contracts with modest increases of about 10% per year are not unusual for young guys.

Every max contract is back-loaded, as are a lot of MLEs that teams give out
