I will say, if we do take the plunge for Lance like we just did for PJ and it blows up in our face, strong advocates of both moves (myself included) will have enough crow to survive until next off season.

If this board is any indication, they won't eat that crow quietly in a corner.

Like. I. Said. Who else wanted him? Where was this high demand for Marvin Williams than he needed $7M a year?

It doesn't exist, and even if it did, it's still too much. Where is he so great at that the stretch 4 had to be him?

I don't need to know anything to know that.

You can't say it's too much when you have no idea of what the demand actually was for him. You're acting like Cho just pulled some random number out of his ass and had no justification in offering that salary. You can't be that naive....or can you?

Kemba will ask for more and he'll get it, but it won't be here. IMO, and I really like Kemba, but that's what I think will happen.

No way Biz should or will get that money. He's a putrid offensive player and is a good defender but we weren't even confident enough in him to give him minutes during the playoffs until Jefferson was REALLY hurting.

I think Al is going to get around 15 or 16 million a year if he opts out but if he commands more Henderson's contract will be more movable next year and Neal's 3 million expiring could easily take care of the rest.

-You also have to factor in the escalating rookie contracts, they jump up in millions from year to year.

- Henderson's contract will be moveable, maybe it's something we try to do next free agency.

- If Bosh just got a max, Al is going to get close to that if he has another All-NBA season.

- Re-signing Biyombo doesn't really hurt because his salary would bump up maybe $1mil at the very worst. By the way his QO is set at $4 (I believe), so he will at least be making that.

- If we're already over this year, losing Neal's $3 mil doesn't really do anything except get us back under, and barely.

- Like Biyombo, Kemba is a RFA. I'd be surprised if we don't match anything up to $9.5 for him as we can go over to sign him (something we can't do with a point guard like Dragic who will command $$$ that we don't have).

Back loading is very uncommon in the NBA. I guess we could do that, but the chances are slim.

This is true but a guy like Lance, as seen on tv, will try to do anything to win.

He has the advantage of being a star here. In IND he plays 3rd flute behind George and Hibbert(it's ridiculous)

Could be. I'm not in the negotiating room, so I have no idea what type of contracts or contract is being drawn up.

I'm just pointing out how uncommon backloaded contracts are in the NBA.

The only two poison pill contracts I can think of are Lin's and Asik's. Imagine that lol.

    • be kind of hard with us going undefeated the rest of the year. yeah...i said it.
    • I don't think it's necessarily selfless to make that trade. I think it's all in how you plan and if you can objectively view the player. You know you're going to have a new coach and be taking a QB in the draft. Whether or not he wanted to admit it, we were going to be beginning a rebuild with a new offense and new defense. Depending on the coach, Burns may not have even been a good fit for the scheme that coach wanted to run.  So, if you're not 1st, you're going to need to trade up. Burns likely is going to want in the 30m per year range. While an effective pass rusher, he was never a complete DE. He wasn't a JJ, TJ, Bosa, or Garrett. He was more Reddick, and while good, never going to be in that top tier contract caliber.  So the question becomes, knowing that you need a QB to go with a new coach, is it better to have your  23, 24 and 25' 1sts  extra 24 and 25 1sts an extra 23'2nd  and 30m aav of future contract cap space to get a QB and edge rusher  Or your 23, 24 and 25 1sts and a good, but not elite DE on an elite tier contract.  6 picks and available 30m AAV in cap space vs 3 picks and 0 extra cap space to get a QB and a good, not great, DE.  To me that is a simple answer and frankly one that could potentially save my job. You have to have vision and be able to recognize value. Fitts over valued Burns like many fans did. I think ultimately what cost him his job was 3 years of not being able to value players correctly. We saw it twice in the draft in 2 separate years when he panicked and couldn't read the draft. DJ Johnson and Matt Corral picks specifically come to mind.  I don't think it was about being selfless as much as being a strategist. Neither Rhule nor Fitts never struck me as very strategic guys. I think they were more let's throw poo at the wall and see what sticks. Unfortunately for the fans, none of it stuck, but it still all stunk.
    • The issue is the formula is secret, and it incorporates runs... So... Yup, it does. Same with PFF (which isn't quite as secret). But when it doesn't - like on Sunday - it's often to hilarious results. PFF is more reliable I think at matching my 'eye' test.
