Hornets Sign Marvin Williams

Recommended Posts

Marvin will be great. Mcbob was ass. You guys liked him. I hated him until he elbowed Lebron

Some of you UNC jock-sniffers are so biased it's hilarious.

McRoberts was a HUGE part of our success last year.  Marvin will be good, I'm sure.  But "Mcbob was ass" is an ignorant statement.

Just watching the press conference an Marvin is just such a good dude and smart basketball player. I think he will be a really good player playing the 4 off of Al.

Marvin is a great guy. They were talking about him on NBAtv & David Aldridge said Marvin is arguably the highest character player & nicest guy in the entire league.

I remember reading a story about him when he was in high school & his team was in a championship game. The game was tied in the 4th & the coach substituted Marvin back in for a kid, who got really emotional because he was a Sr & it was his last game. Marvin told the coach to leave his friend in & let him play. The coach told Marvin they would lose & asked him why he didn't want to play. Marvin told his coach he knew but didn't care because it was his friend's last game. He wasn't gonna get to go play in college like he was & just to let him finish the game. And of course they lost.

His many prep players, much less stars, do you think would do something like that? Instead of playing & winning the game he pulled himself out so he could watch his friend play.

Then after his freshman year at UNC he wanted to return for another year but Roy Williams pretty much told him no. Marvin's family was really poor & Roy told him he needed to leave so he could take care of them. Apparently he broke down crying. That was 9 years ago and Marvin still returns in the summers to go to class. He only went to college one year but he's still going back to finish the other 3 years & get his degree. He obviously doesn't need it but he said he wants to get his degree & be the first person from his family to graduate college because he knows that'll make his mom more proud of him than anything he's ever done on a basketball court.

I've always liked Marvin. He's one of my favorite players, and one of the few Tar Heels I like.

I get annoyed when everything devolves into UNC/Duke but this is not one of those times. McBob was vital to our success but Lance and Marvin will easily make up for his absence.

If we really needed McBob that bad we would have trumped Miami's offer, but he wasn't worth it.

Y'all are still bitching over Marvin's contract? If he gets over 30 minutes like McBob did, he'll average 12-14 Pts 6-8 Reb per game. He's well worth the money as a mentor and stop gap until Zeller/Vonleh are ready. Marvin is literally one of the best character/locker room guys in the league. He'll be a great influence for Lance/PJ, too.

I answered a question. You're trying to argue.

Marvin would've also backed up Nene, and Humphries would've started here too if we overpaid him in desperation, too, therefore, you have no point.

You're smarter than Cho, fully understand contracts, know what it takes to lure players to Charlotte, and know who fits in well for the team......we get it already.

    • According to the talking heads of the sports world, this is a pretty meh QB class.  Sanders and Ward are the only two with first round buzz, but the rest are blah.  Take that for what you will. Let's see how Bryce does in year three.  That's just where we are.  Patience is the key here.  Players need time to develop.  They can't develop if they don't play.  Bryce has made some really good throws, but he doesn't look like CJ Stroud.  That's going to be his point of comparison the rest of their careers.  The ball doesn't explode off Bryce's hand, it's not a cannon ball shot out of a cannon.  He's not going to break a 70 yard run.   Bryce is going to have to continue to make good throws and make plays.  Part of that is going to depend on the play calls.  Part of it is based on the skill players.  A couple drops picked up yesterday and it's a win and Bryce throws 1-2 more TDs.  A completely different story. It's been a crazy year indeed.  I just want to see Bryce continue to develop.  To see XL become more consistent.  To see JT fully recover (not play this season if he's not healthy).  I want to see Coker continue to make plays.  I'd love to see Brooks get more touches and Chubba continue to hammer defenses. Then this approaching offseason, let's go back to the D and work on fixing it.
    • Prime is already gone boss.  Nothing left for team Sanders in college football.
    • Justin Fields’ fifth-year option was declined by the Steelers in April. Without a new contract, he will be a free agent in March. I am pulling for Bryce Young to look good the rest of the season, but if he doesn't, how many of you would be on board for the Panthers to try signing Justin Fields?
