Hornets Sign Marvin Williams

Recommended Posts

I don't think Kemba is the only point guard on the planet. What I'm saying is that (that people don't seem to understand) we can't afford any other point guard.

Say we sign Lance to a 4x11

Okay so below is our cap space without Kemba.

- Back up PG: $5 mil

- Draft Pick (PG): $550K

- Stephenson: $11 mil

- Henderson: $6 mil

- Hairston: $2 mil

- MKG: $6 mil

- Taylor: $2 mil

- Williams: $7 mil

- Zeller: $6 mil

- Vonleh: $4 mil

- Jefferson: $16 mil

- Draft Pick ©: $1 mil

That puts us $2 mil over with no starting point guard and no backup center.

Our only option is to re-sign Kemba using his bird rights and then use the MLE to sign a quality backup center and if we do that, we might as well use the bi-annual to get a decent back up small forward. That puts us in the tax, something we will not do.

Oh by the way, even if you manage to trade Henderson (not going to happen, no one wants him), you'll still be awfully close to the tax.

If Jordan changed his mind and would be willing to pay into the tax next year then we might be able to make it work.

Maybe a 2015 roster of...

PG: Kemba Walker (re-sign), Kirk Hinrich (sign this year), Oliver Hanlan (draft next year)

SG: Lance Stephenson (sign this year), Gerald Henderson, P.J. Hairston

SF: Micahel Kidd-Gilchrist, Travis Outlaw (bi-annual next year), Jeff Taylor (re-sign)

PF: Marvin Williams, Cody Zeller, Noah Vonleh

C: Al Jefferson (re-sign), Samuel Dalembert (MLE), Willie Cauley-Stein (draft next year).

I mean technically that works because we are using a ton of exceptions to sign players and we're re-signing all of our players with their bird rights.

If Kemba re-signs for $8.5 and Jefferson re-signs for $16 that could work. The total team salary came in at $81 mil, which is the exact number of the projected lux tax for 2015.

I also want to say real quick that just because someone cites a source it still doesn't really mean poo.  But at least citing a source means someone is telling you this, and it isn't just speculation or educated guesses.

But sources half the time end up being poo.  SO just because I am keeping the optimism because there are still sources saying we are going after Stephenson doesn't mean it is true.  But Bonnell's gut feel doesn't mean it is true either

Well, none of the legitimate sources that I have seen reported have given any concrete info that the Hornets are actively considering Lance, instead they are using terms like "look for the Hornets to make a move."  Which is really just another way of throwing crap against the wall.  Basically saying the Hornets are a logical pursuer of Stephenson.

The way I have taken them is that they see that the Hornets want to make a big, bold move, and Hayward didn't work out, so Lance is the next logical fit they could go after.  I haven't gotten the sense that any of them actually have a source inside the Hornets that has given any indication the team is seriously interested in him, just more speculation.

As for Bonnell, I don't think anyone is telling him anything about Stephenson, one way or the other, but he hasn't implied they are either.  I do, however, think he is getting a sense from the team through his interactions with them and by the way they respond to questions (i.e. reading between the lines, non-verbal cues).  The Hornets are about as tight lipped as anybody out there, so I don't think anyone not in the inner circle of the team has any real knowledge of what they are thinking, just speculation and pure guesswork.

Can't we use up to the luxury tax to sign our own players? So wouldn't that mean we would have over $12m plus to use and not go over the luxury tax? I don't know the ins and out of the nba salary cap but that was my understanding

Is the cap going up next year?

Cut Zeller that is 6 million more. Say bye to Taylor. There is 8 million, with might even be able to sign Kemba with that and bird rights

Trade Henderson for backup PG.

Draft back up center.

I wouldn't cut Zeller unless he's just terribly bad and doesn't show any signs of improvement this season. But, Hendo and Taylor should be gone to free us with plenty of money.

I don't want to do that, but we have a luxury of having Vonleh, so if we need money we have that option to open up 6 million

We can't just dump Hendo. If we trade him we would likely have to take back some of his salary. That is why you trade him for backup PG

i'm an avid sports fan, been a panthers season ticket holder from day one, same with the hornets since they cut the ribbons on tyvola, but no matter how hard i try to appreciate carolina huddle, folks like carolinapanthers8789 f*cking ruin it, they assume they work for william morris and are in the know on how to represent celebrity clientele, and quite frankly its a chore to even view this page anymore.  hopefully your admins will take care of that sh*t.  no wonder the other nfc south teams mock our forums. its a GD shame that i'm okay viewing the saints/falcons/bucs/wizards/heat/hawks pages rather than this one.  and its because of you, you jackass. if i didn't know any better i'd think it was chris f'ing mclain.
