Target sees the Redskins end game

Im sure the man who chose the name was racist against blacks, but so was much of america in the 1930s. While he wouldnt allow blacks to play on his team, he did have native american players.

Origin of name was chosen because they used to be the boston braves. To avoid confusing with the braves baseball team it was changed to redskin to keep the logo.

He wouldn't allow black players on the Redskins into the 1960s long after the league was integrated.

saying "hey native american!" would be weird.

saying "hey redskin!" would be racist.

why are people so insistent on creating every false equivalency imaginable to avoid admitting that maybe it's a messed-up term reflecting the worst parts of a bygone era?

Why can't I say:

"Hi friend!"

Or

"What's up [insert name]?"

Or even

"Hello"

?

Because racism against blacks immediately dissipated after legal integration and civil rights movements.

It takes a couple generations of education to wipe that hate out, it doesn't happen overnight.

The fact still remains that since he wouldn't allow african americans on his team but did allow native americans means he was at minimum, LESS racist against natives.

"Well okay guys, yes he was a flat out racist to one entire race of people, but surely he couldn't be racist to these other people, right?"

That's your argument? Is this a joke? Please tell me it is.

Personally, seeing that the Redskins were considered behind the times over 60 years ago has brought me off the fence. It should change. Wipe away the legacy of GP Marshall
