Statistical Analysis of 7 Young QBs

To add to my last statement.

If you were to ask me for 1 QB for the next 5-10 years it would be between Newton and Wilson.

Newton has more physical tools, and the sky is the limit.

Wilson has more playing time, and is pretty damn efficient.

With this D, I think that you would probably have tremendous success for the next 2 years with Wilson.  But when this D falls off, and it will, I would prefer Newton, as I think that he will be ready to carry a team within the next 3 years.

That's the thing though, he's already been carrying the team the past 3 years. The offense runs through Cam Newton. Just like the Colts run through Luck.

I would actually love to see the Hawks throw more on wilson's plate. It'd be pretty damn cool to see what he can do when the team is "his"

Oh, I agree.  Without Cam this offense is the Jags.

I just think that at this stage of the game, Wilson is seeing things a bit faster than Cam, not a knock, just much more time under center.

The game will catch up to Wilson, and I think that Cam has a better chance of long term great play.

Thanks for the data to chew on, Nasty. Im not here to debunk anything, but I just wanted to point out that you didnt mention the QB's defense and how that situational and indirectly effects a QB's attempts and whether he will throw or pass more often.

I completely get where you're coming form, but if I did it like that, I'd have to include the running game as well, along with WR produciton and average field position and yadda yadda yadda.

There's no one stat that determines how good a QB is on their own, or any position for that matter (receivers depend on the QB, RB's depend on the line, etc.), every position is linked in some way shape or form, but that would involve diving into some stuff that is even deeper than PFF, and you would have to do weighted grades and crazy calculations to figure it out. To me, it's overkill.

when it comes down to it, they are asked to do one thing when the ball is snapped: Play QB. This just has the stats after the ball is snapped, nothing more.

Plus with the law of Averages, you figure this stuff balances itself out, like Cam's rookie year he threw the ball a bunch the second game of the year, but then there was the monsoon week three so he didn't because he couldn't.

Who are you, who are so wise in the ways of science?

Great post. And no stats can't be the only measure but they are one type of measure that taken together with other measurements form a complete picture. Again, well done.

Dam McNasty, why don't you go work for ESPN. Oh, no wait! You couldn't get hired because you use real stats and logic for analysis instead of slurping some media favorite's johnson. This is one of the best analysis I have read on this forum. I give you multiple whole pies sir!
