Why do you think he will retire?

I heard or read something about it...thats all really. Seems he doesnt want to play there and it will be difficult for them to unload him. They will get smacked with a hefty cap hit if they trade him.

While I would love to see us get AJ. But it ain't going to happen. Unless AJ willing to take a pay cut. Which I doubt it will happen. We have very little cap right now and we have to resign Cam and Keek in the next year or 2. We can't afford to waste a bunch of money on an aging WR. If we wanted to do that. We should have just kept Steve for one last season. Bottomline while it might be a dream come true if we could land him, but with that kind of cash. I doubt we get him. But who knows. Let's see what Gettlemen comes up with.

Yeah let's take him while we're still cap strapped and have the impending future contracts of Cam, Luke, and CJ/Hardy.  Then once we do get out the woods cap-wise we have the Star and KK contracts to look forward to on top of the Cam, Luke, CJ/Hardy ones.

 

I just don't think we're in a position to pursue something like this thanks to all those Hurney contracts.

Ehh we've only got a year or two left dealing with Hurney's mess.

 

After this year it'll pretty much just be J Stu.  Hopefully he shows well this year.

I just meant if we were to pick up AJ then we'll have to restructure the deal so it's backloaded, since he said so himself he wouldn't take a pay cut but restructure up front to help teams this year get under the cap.  That's all well and good for this year... but then a year or two down the line we're in the same situation trying to juggle a lot of good, young player's contracts at one time with one aging overpaid veteran.

To be fair I shouldn't even be in this thread. I don't see us making any form of a move on AJ unless he AND the Texans make us an offer we can't refuse (a 5th+ round pick, no more than 3 mil a year).

 

If he wants what is on his current contract, no way we even entertain that idea.  We have too much talent that is younger, better and more deserving of that money.

 

If we are willing to spend that money on a big name receiver I think it makes more sense to make a play next offseason in free agency.

 

Even so, I still don't see a wide receiver as what makes or breaks this team.  If this was a stud olineman in the twilight of their career, this would have my attention.  So long as Cam is protected this year our wideouts will surprise everyone.  We have a nice mix of youth, vets, possession guys, red zone guys and speed guys.  Once preseason is over the coaching staff will (hopefully) have an idea on how to put these guys in positions to succeed.

      100% even if rest of team is really talented if they march young out to be qb and he plays like he has for 90% of his starts the panthers have already lost doesnt even matter how good the rest of the team is or isnt and also makes it hard to even tell how good they are.  They need true competition for young this offseason.

Panthers Stadium, LLC, filed its rezoning site plan with the city of Charlotte on Monday, initiating an important — if mostly technical — step toward renovating Bank of America Stadium. The filings state that the rezoning relates “primarily to technical aspects associated with improvements to Bank of America Stadium,” and that the rezoning is required because “the current stadium zoning is out of date” for the team’s stadium renovation plans.   The planned stadium updates include new seats installed throughout the upper and lower bowls; stadium safety and security enhancements; a reimagined South Lawn Pavilion; upgraded restrooms; exterior enhancements (including LED video boards) and more. Planning for the stadium renovation project will continue through 2025, with construction starting in 2026 and the renovation’s conclusion in 2029, The Observer previously reported.

      In my dream, we somehow luck into a top 2 pick and someone wants a QB bad and doesn’t want anyone else to jump them. Somehow we’ll probably screw up the picks anyway, but it would be nice to do even partially what Chicago did to us. We’d have to lose out, which is a decent possibility unless Tampa is resting. We need Atlanta to stay within a game because Atlanta beat Tampa twice. The rest of the draft slots are who knows because Jax plays the Raiders and then Tennessee and you never know who will rest starters. I think we are top 7 unless we somehow pull out 2 more wins. The 4 win teams have higher SOS and there is only one 5 win team with the same SOS. If we win 1 of 3, we still should stay in top 7. If we lose out and the Jax games work for us, we can easily be top 3.
