Slipped over to jazzfanz for some Jazz perspective...

Recommended Posts

They have quite a few threads since the offer was agreed upon.  One of which already with 500+ post.  They're some interesting opinions

the highlights:

Apparently Jordan is the GM.  Ive seen this for awhile.  Hes often credited/blamed for every decision the team makes.

Fans don't want to match.  They pretty much all agree we are over paying and would rather "offer Parsons or Monroe."

Every now and then a rational poster comes in a says match the deal as Utah isn't the most desirable landing spot for a player of his caliber through FA.  Build through the draft.

A few wouldn't be opposed to a s&t for MKG and/or Vonleh(wtf?)

revisiting AK47 quite a bit.  seems like a nightmare over there

They are torn as a fan base over the Novak deal already.  Lots of arguments sprouting up over that.

A couple posters acknowledge he'd fit better here playing with Jefferson than returning to essentially the identical team which he struggled with at times last year.  They think his best chance to be worth the deal is in charlotte.

some have convinced themselves we are the only team that would offer a max deal and Utah should call us stupid and force us to honor the contract.

animosity over "being all about the money"  Sighting Duncan and Dirk deals as taking less for the team.  Some even went as far as saying they will boo him.

Nothing ground breaking just found it interesting what the other side is thinking.

I saw where they said Hayward had a bad relationship with "Ty" (guessing that's Burke?). And like you said MJ is in charge of everything and he sucks and that they're still mad about MJ and the Bulls beating the Jazz etc..

Said we were WAY too high on MKG and they would be fine with a MKG + Zeller/Vonleh with possibly a first

If we fuging trade assets and do that shitty contract as well, I'm gonna be really surprised.

From what others have said that can't happen. Language in the contract states he can't be traded this year. Utah would have to match every term of the contract.

We can trade today up until 12 when he signs the offer sheet. Once he's signed it.....it's done. He either plays for us or Utah matches. But up until he signs we can work a S&T

Good! I hope their front office is as smart as them.

Told damn "KKL, WoW, Gay Cowboy", best move is for then to go after Monroe!

After nabbing Vonleh that would have been over kill.

Plus Monroe plays in the same areas as Big Al. So you're not spreading the floor very much for Al to do work.

How do you compare Dirk and Tim Duncan to this...and why would a 24 year old with the means to sign a max contract take less when Utah could easily have had him for substantially less a few months ago?

Plus Dirk and Duncan already got their big deals. Not everybody should be Mother Teresa so that a team can sign a backup shooting guard or avoid the luxury tax.

Also those guys were unrestricted..they can adjust dictate their salaries..Heyward is basically being stolen by cash...it takes a bit more.

No one thinks Heyward would get this offer as an unrestricted FA.

    • Exactly the type of thing he would have done here. The excuse people were stannin’ so hard claiming he would have looked just as bad. Just not true.
    • Yes and there aren't 32 starting QBs in the league either. Too many teams and too many games. The NFL has regressed over the years and game quality is lacking. The other leagues are supposed to be farm leagues but it doesn't matter. You just won't have 32 no matter what they do. The move to super athletes playing QB at all levels has lead to this. It used to be those guys played other positions but now they are QBs who can't really QB.  It has a trickle down effect too. OL can't block because they never had to. The fact that in today's game your QB must be able to run at least a little to survive is evidence of this as well. IMO they have ruined the game same as with the NBA. It's been simplified to the point of being boring.  Just look at the top 10 this season. Patrick Mahomes (Chiefs) Joe Burrow (Bengals) Josh Allen (Bills) Lamar Jackson (Ravens) Dak Prescott (Cowboys) Jalen Hurts (Eagles) Brock Purdy (49ers) Jordan Love (Packers) Justin Herbert (Chargers) Matthew Stafford (Rams) Once we get to number 5 the stats look like this: 167 262 1,845 63.7 7.0 10 8 65 18 84.5   47.5   10 TDs and 8 INTs??? At number 5??? There was a time not that long ago that he wouldn't even be a starter.
    • I'm not convinced that the NFL is any better or worse at developing QBs now than they were 20 years ago.  I mean I'm sure there are some developmental issues at play, just not sure it is any different than it has been. The biggest difference IMO is that NFL teams are waaaaaaaay more willing to invest a 1st round pick into a QB now than they were 15-20 years ago.  A guy like Colin Kaepernick would probably be a top 5 pick in 2025, whereas he went in the 2nd in 2011.  Would a guy like Trey Lance go top 3 in 2010?  Hell no.  Look at Russell Wilson - he didn't go until the 3rd round.  The standard for being a 1st round QB has dropped. So it may seem like we're seeing more high-profile busts at the position, but we're also seeing teams reach for QBs way more than they have in the past.  Someone with Anthony Richardson's college resume doesn't go in the top 3 20 years ago.
