Hayward agrees to sign

Recommended Posts

If all he wanted was a max deal why wouldn't he have taken it from Cleveland and had it earlier? If he wanted to stay in Utah so bad, he could have signed the Cleveland offer and had Utah match by now. He wants to play here and he wants the money. Super duper because we have both.

Why would you tell me what I just said and act like you're telling me something I don't know?

I already knew how most of you thought before I typed it, which is why I typed it.

He desires to play for $63M in Charlotte over other places that would pay him the same, so there is something to be said for Charlotte over those other places, not Charlotte in general.

If he would not play for less than $63M in Charlotte, then Charlotte is secondary.

I don't think anybody's sentiment was Hayward has his heart set on Charlotte, but there are reports that the visit went very well.  Cho Clifford and co committed a lot of time and resources to the courtship and closed with the absolute max offer and an agreement.  Not even sure I understand the point of your argument.  Oh, it was to point out how stupid people think.

Cleveland went cold on the deal when LeBron's people called.

If he "really reallllyyyyy wanted to come here," he'd have come for the $13M he was asking Utah for, which I'm sure is closer to where the Hornets started their negotiations.

While that may be true, Utah would match $13M without even thinking about it so it's a moot point.

Cleveland also apparently offered him a contract that was very close to a max (that he obviously did not sign) and he was also planning on visiting Phoenix after meeting with Cho and Jordan in Charlotte. This leads me to believe that the money was right and so was the situation. Hayward could have easily said that he wanted to visit Phoenix before making a decision.

Haha, what do you want him to do? Tattoo "Charlotte 4 Life" on his back? Then change his number to 4 so that the uniform and the tattoo coincide? He wants to play here enough to sign the offer sheet. That's plenty, and if you do understand rfa then quit pretending us signing him to a lower offer sheet would do anything besides save Utah money.

Taylor ......

Yeah, he was in the back of my mind reading throughout this thread, but Taylor is still kind of unknown.

He gave us a lot to look forward to, and we saw glimpses of what he could be, but he was still wildly inconsistent.  Sometimes he would just disappear, and I remember numerous times where he blew easy layups/dunks that were virtually uncontested.  Add to that, he is coming off a serious injury that could potentially affect his biggest asset - his athleticism.

I would love for JT to come through and be that offensive wing to supplement what we already have projected, but I don't trust it.

Parsons is established.

Either way, I expect we'll be better this season with the additions of Vonleh, Hairston, and the growth of Cody.  But, I'd feel like we're pretty close to the top if we added an established scorer at the 3 as well.

Explained in a subsequent comment.

He's coming to Charlotte because he's getting paid, and he prefers Charlotte over the few other places that would've paid him the same, plain and simple.

People saying "He really wants to be in Charlotte" never say "He really wants to be in Charlotte for $63M." Why not? Because that would be a negative connotation, because we can't discuss that Hayward is out for a paycheck just like Lance Stephenson and everyone else. So I keep seeing that Hayward deserves $63M, it's justified, but those same people want to act like he's coming to Charlotte for reasons other than that $63M.

I despise inconsistently applied standards, based on how you "feel about" individuals.

Yet you don't think paying Hayward $63M is overrating him? Interesting.

Max deal = superstar. Hayward is no superstar.

"Of course" Hayward deserves as much as he can get, right? Anyone here who was freaking out last season over Jefferson's $13.5M per that isn't upset over Hayward's number is a hypocrite, or worse.

Jordan's still haunting the Jazz.

Unlike Hayward, Parsons is a pure 3.  He would swing to 4 before he would swing to 2.  I don't think they were looking to "upgrade" MKG just yet.  Grab Hayward in the best case and he MKG and Kemba are the ball handling perimeter options(plus who ever we can sign to back Kemba) of today and the future.

If we don't land Hayward he was really the only player outside of Stephenson who could fill that hole.  If we don't land him I think we stand pat and grab vets on short term deals and set up for next offseason.  Hayward is just a rare under 25 player where fit meets need who was somewhat available imo

Read my entire post that counteracts what you are trying to imply (Hayward hates Charlotte/loves money).

People often forget the business aspect of the league and get hung up on figures.  Just because he agreed to what it would take to possibly get him out of Utah apparently he's only in it for the money.  I've decided to leave that silly debate alone.
