Hayward agrees to sign

Recommended Posts

You have no idea how restricted free agency works.  Thats pretty obvious.  He is not free to choose a team.  So your thinking he would just come he for less is very much incorrect to say the least.

I know exactly how restricted free agency works, buffoon. I'm not talking about THE FUGING DETAILS of free agency, I'm talking about this "idiotic meme" that Hayward "really wants to come to Charlotte."

No, he prefers Charlotte over Cleveland. If Charlotte had offered less than Cleveland and he still chose Charlotte, then you might have an argument about where he "really wants to be."

My posts have zero to do with the rules of free agency, and everything to do with the stupid ways people think.

Are you that dense?

The point is NEITHER should be playing SG, but of course you can put any player anywhere. The fact of the matter is SFs tend to get more open 3s than SGs do. There is a difference between 2s and 3s, which is one reason why Hayward's numbers dropped last year.

I guess I am that dense, because in my opinion he possess all the skills of a guard forward.  He can play guard or he can play forward.  Ever offensive set is different and players have roles regardless of position.  There was a time in the NBA where it was very rare for a 4 to step out and shoot 3s, well its pretty common place now.  No need to look at things only in the box.  That isn't even the case here as Hayward has been productive at both wing positions in his career.

He's a Forward-Guard. He can play guard, but if you want the most out of him, he shouldn't. If he's the highest paid player on your team, then you want the most out of him, so he shouldn't.

Notice one thing.  I haven't called you a single name, but thats your style not mine.  Anyway there is something to be said about his desire to play in Charlotte.  Even the casual observer can see that it is potentially a much better situation for him.  Either way I haven't spoken to him personally so no point in me arguing that point.

Yes, Hayward said "Pay me a max deal because I really want to come there and Utah will match if you don't."

Sure.

I'll believe that Hayward "really wanted to come to Charlotte" when someone tells me he would've come here for $12M, like Utah was offering. Then a comparison can actually be made.

Right now, he's coming because he's being paid max. All that's clear is he'd rather be in Charlotte than Cleveland, if Cleveland was really also offering him $63M.

If all he wanted was a max deal why wouldn't he have taken it from Cleveland and had it earlier? If he wanted to stay in Utah so bad, he could have signed the Cleveland offer and had Utah match by now. He wants to play here and he wants the money. Super duper because we have both.

I know all "max contracts" are not equal, and Hayward was not worth any of them.

Good player, not at a number that makes him the highest player on the team by a mile.

Bro you are tollin this thread real hard ha. The formula is simple. Charlotte wants to be a top 5 team in the East this year for a number of reasons: rebrand, Al's age, playoff-caliber core to name a few.

To the front office and coaching staff, Hayward best fits the mold of what they were looking for in their free agent search. He's probably not worth a max contract to the Hornets FO either, but in this market situation he is, because you have to offer a deal that Utah is unwilling to match.

It's not just about what he's worth in general, it's about what he's worth to Utah and what it takes to get him away from there in an effort to get better.

Portland was put in a similar situation when the Wolves gave Nic Batum a max offer sheet that they were forced to match, vastly overpaying him.

Forward-Guard or Guard-Forward what difference would it make for this team?  He would be more than capable of showcasing all of his skills from either position.  If thats impossible for you to believe than switch he and kidd-gilchrist in your mind.  If he were to sign and Utah declined to match than you should prepare yourself to see both MKG and Hayward on the floor together because that would be the obvious look of the future.  You can sit and decide what position he plays then.

If he signs great, step forward.

If Jazz resign, we grab a teir down, still make playoffs, and possibly make a move next season.

Good perspective Kurb.

BUT, I still hope there is an offensive SF out there who can help us once the Jazz match.  Chandler Parsons was ideal to me.

What's wrong with running a pg SF SF pff C lineup?

Nothing......

Think about it can't seem to grasp that Gordon, and MKG can play at the same time.

Side note.

Gerald Wallace and SJax were both SF types as well and that worked out.

He desires to play for $63M in Charlotte over other places that would pay him the same, so there is something to be said for Charlotte over those other places, not Charlotte in general.

If he would not play for less than $63M in Charlotte, then Charlotte is secondary.

Utah hasn't said anything about matching anything. That's all rumors. The only thing concrete tied to Hayward & Utah is that his agent said he's been in talks with Utah all week & they've been trying to work out a long-term deal. Unless Hayward's agent or Utah themselves say it I'm not buying it. Everything else is just rumors.

While its true that its just rumor at this point its been pretty well stated by those in the know that that has been the Jazz attitude through out.  Both the VP and GM have made multiple comments that suggest they will match any offer sheet.  Could very well be rumor/bluff but thats all we have to go by for now.  It is more than likely they will match the offer.  They just can't afford to let him walk for nothing.
