Your overall defense will get better when you substitute two former pro bowl safeties for surprises, add a former Rivera guy in Cason, add young talent, and everyone else is a year better.  Our defensive backfield should be better and the front seven is just going to continue to eat.

There were a lot of rookies producing for our defense last year. Up to five on the field at a time IIRC. It only stands to reason that they are all better in year two. Therefore the entire defense should be better as a whole.

The defense could be better overall. But they will miss that crazy a$$ Mike Mitchell. Penalties and all. That cat played with a MEAN STREAK, setting the tone in the d backfield. I think they'll be better every where else, including depth. But man I wish we could have kept Mitchell.

Like the sentiment and had the $$ been right I think it would have been good but I believe the secondary flourished last year based on the performance of the front 7. I could eat my words but I wonder how he and Captain perform with a pedestrian front 7.

I think Mitchell had his issues, like every player, but what he brought to the defense is hard to teach. 

 

And the only defensive player I remember from the Carolina/Raider game in 2012 was Mike Mitchell. I think he just needed an opportunity to play anywhere but Oakland to show what he could do.
