I don't want to be a dick because this board isn't the place for this BUT......

if you are active, that type of stuff shouldn't be happening.

EDIT: Please remember, this is coming from a Marine.  Other's maybe more lax in uniform regulations.   Attention to detail, especially uniform is one of the first items stressed in Boot Camp / OCS.

It shouldn't be but does. Its way more likely he just screwed it up than going out of his way to fake being a Marine. I'm also no longer active so I have no problem talking about the real military.

In bootcamp, we had 1 Medal and in the Navy, they are more worried about teaching firefighting and first aid. We also had more uniforms than any other branch and only 8 weeks of basic. Honestly, we never talked about medals in bootcamp.

And to clarify, I never expected to get my NAM when I did. I actually had my ribbon board correct but my BMCS "corrected" me, well you really don't talk back to an E-8 when you are an E-5. I wasn't sure because I got like 5 ribbons/medals all in about 2-3 weeks and my poo was changing quickly.

I don't understand why some of you are so passionate to accuse a man you never met. You have no idea whom he is or what state of mind he is in. Sure, It's possible the man is a loon that likes being thanked and getting free stuff. But it's one possibility of thousands. Give the man the benefit of the doubt.

Why does he deserve benefit of the doubt?  It's well beyond doubt. I don't have to have met him, I saw his uniform and read about a fellow Marine's encounter with him. That's more than enough proof to me.

Google Stolen Valor and then go to images.  There are countless stories of these idiots out there.

Compare those clowns to how this retired Master Gunnery Sergeant looks:

The SEAL Trident on the fat guy is what made me roll on the floor laughing. I'm surprised he wasn't wearing a green beret too.

  • 2 weeks later...

The media and a few marines ran this poor guy through the mud.

All because of his attire.    Karma would be once some of them (The marines that poo talked this guy) get up there in age and their memories start to fade and they get confused easily then.......that some younger marines come along,  and run them through the mud and tell the media that there was no way they were ever a marine.
