DAMN CHIGGERS!

Once you start to itch the chigger is long gone.  Best thing you can do at that point is use an antihistamine orally and apply hydrocortisone to the bite.  to prevent the bites you need to cover your feet , ankles and legs with the highest rated deet you can find- preferably 40 % before going into infested areas.  Spraying your clothing down with permethrin and letting it dry before putting it on also works well. I find the best thing is to stay the fug out of infested areas except in the coldest months of winter.   Permethrin is Very poisonous to cats so keep it away from your pussy.

Clear finger nail polish is what I use. Paint the spots, it helps with the itch too, and they're gone in a day or two.

how did I know I would see old wives tales in this thread?

By the time the welts itch, the chiggers are gone. no need to paint the itchy areas.

This.

Just stay out of the woods as much as possible, and use hydrocortisone cream when they start to itch.

I have found that a little scrape across the top with a sharp knife to help with the itch as well, but it's probably my mind.

Thanks but I was more interrested in what I could treat my yard with, I think that's where they're at. I don't run around in the woods to much any more other than the few trees in by back yard.

like someone else said.... fire ants
