Hornets Center Position in need of help?

with Big Al's year he had last year, we automatically think with him and Biz, the position is pretty solid.. but with the plantar fasciitis that crept up on Jefferson in the playoffs and his age- coupled with Biz's inability to produce offensively- i think we def need to look for another piece down low.

We will ship Haywood out once FA opens on the 11th, but the market for quality Big Men is pretty thin: look at the FAs out there http://hoopshype.com/free_agency/centers_2014.htm

Unless you think Cody or Vonleh can give us some backup minutes down low- it might be a good idea to bring someone in who can help down low.

Agree or disagree?

Hibbert is owed

around 15 mil this season. No thanks

see, this is how screwed up NBA free agency is.  We're paying Big Al 13.6  a year,

he 3rd team center, and Hibbert is making for than him.

Makes me think 2 things...it's gonna be hard to find an all star talent that will sign here,

and two....Big Al is the man.

Zeller and biz can both play center they are by no means starting caliber centers but I believe zeller can hold his own against other back up centers and biz is a great rebounder and shot blocker which is all you can need from a back up center. Look at how the heat did with the bird man in the play offs.

I have a feeling if this Jordan Bachynski kid can make it through the summer league he will be our #3 center and could be a future backup center. He is already a shot blocking specialist and is a decent rebounder which is really all you can ask for a backup center but he has a decent free throw percentage for a big man and has a great hook shot that can't be blocked. Did I mention he is 7'2 ? And has a 7'4 wingspan which only two other draftees can match and we have one of them (Vonleh). He needs to add some weight which could be an easy fix if he's willing and he's 24 but for a UDFA we might end up with a future back up center that can block shots. If we can put him, Bismack, MKG, and Hendo on the court when we are up then teams could have a hard time scoring.

Here's a link to get you hyped on Jordan Bachynski from bleacher report

I was pimping Jordan B. before the draft as a 2nd round steal. To get him as a UDFA is a fugging highway robbery.

I have no idea how a 7'2 C with a 7'4 wingspan who is an ELITE shotblocker and good rebounder doesnt even get drafted. Not even mentioning he has a decent hook shot and moves fairly well.

He should EASILY make the roster and I will bet he outperforms Biz in short fashion.

Jordan is one of those Canadians that never received proper coaching but I'm under the impression that once he gets with Ewing he could turn into a very solid back-up.

If you haven't heard his interview (on Hornets.com) from his workout with us last month, I recommend checking it out. He is a very intelligent player and is one of those players that articulates his desire to learn.

You can always use big men, but I think we are pretty decently covered with Al, Zeller, Vonleh, Biyombo, etc. As is the conversation with most teams, 3 point shooting is always nice.

JB is a better shotblocker and rebounder than all of the players on our roster.

He should be on the roster.

Well, depending on how free agency works out, we might be able to keep him for depth or move Biyombo for a pick if the coaches like him better. I don't really know anything about the guy though. Care to elaborate?

    • Really?  Back to this again? How many times have I said that I’d prefer to trade back from #1? Too many to count, but as I’ve pointed out, that’s going to be much easier said than done, as once we signal we want to trade back, teams will know we don’t want any of the QBs and they’d target the 2nd pick in a trade instead. All of my “T-Mac at #1” talk has been discussed under two circumstances… the first being that no QB or DE pop before the draft, and that we can’t trade back. But again, I know you don’t like to actually read that stuff when I say it, as I’ve said it numerous times.
    • Thanks for posting this. While this was far from a great performance, this critique shows what some of us noticed last week. Bryce played "a little better". There is some talent there. But, as you pointed out we really don't have a great pass blocking line for dropping back each down when we are behind. BY has got some bad habits and physical limitations. At times his teammates let him down. The play calling isn't always the best. I hope he can learn from last week and show us some improvement in the Saints game.
    • Oh, and yes, I’d take a WR first in this upcoming draft, but again, that’s not in a vacuum I wouldn’t have taken him over the QBs this past year or likely the ones next year either. It’s all relative to who is available in a specific draft, and I don’t think any of the QB’s are worth the risk at #1 this year. Also the fact that you’ve said you would take T-Mac #2 but scoff at him going #1 is just in itself, super weird.  How you can justify a player at #2 but not #1 solely because of their position and with complete disregard to the other players available, is absolutely crazy town talk
