Tony Gonzalez, Jeremy Shockey, Kellen Winslow Jr.

In all honesty, I don't think that TE's are going to be the problem for the defense this year. I'm not even convinced that rush defense will be the short coming. It's the pass happy, big play oriented offenses that we will be facing this season that will hurt us. If the secondary has improved, I feel confident about our chances. If not, we're in for some long games.

interpretations of apples to some, are read as oranges by others..

No, the scheme isn't going to change to a 3-4, there won't be any drastic changes. I thought this was obvious... But things won't be ran the same as Trgo.. Which I also thought was obvious..

I guess all the interviews with players saying they are learning a new defense is irrelevant..

No where in that article does the word "vow" come up, that's a pretty strong word meaning the exact same philosophy, scheme, and lack of focus on fundamentals would still be here, without any changes at all..

Most of that article is talking about the players... Which means... Meeks doesn't need to change the players that Trgo had, because they are all qualified to do what he wants them to do...

Sorry, disagree whole heartily with your statement... like I said, I'm not sure how people interpret what they read and come up with these things.. Meeks hasn't said anything close to that..

Agreed. Davidson runs the same kind of offense Henning did here (power run Air Coryell) however he's changed some aspects of it (such as the whole snap count thing).

Will we see a base cover 3 this season with Meeks? Probably, however certain details will be changed and maybe we will incorporate some Tampa 2 in there, because it is actually a kind of Cover 3, albeit a different scheme than we use for our base defense. For starters, defenders will probably be more aggressive than they have been in the past, which will be a plus.

Can someone bring up Gonzo stats when we played KC please? I don't remember him getting off when he had Trent Green as his QB and I know he didn't last year.

Shockey never does well against us. Pretty much we end up hurting him even in the preseason (giants Vs panthers the hit in the back).

Winslow I don't know if he even played when we beat the Browns 2 years ago so I don't know about him.

I feel like this is a outdated statement (Just like when our Dline was still consider the best 3 or 4 years after the fact).

Could the Thread starter please show stats too back up his fears? Please don't go back 4-5 years ago.

Still holding onto hope that we see a few more screens and spread out the defense with 4 WR sets.. I'd love to see Barnidge thrown in there, even if it's a 5 WR set with him in.. Dude is tall and quick, he has to be able to get open every once in a while...

One article that came out with Gross (IIRC) said now that they have a consecutive year, they aren't having to teach any new guys the basics and are able to open things up a bit. I'm hoping that means during the regular season, we see some new things...

He says to expect much of the same as last year, nothing drastically different.

That's a lot of not saying much, hardly a "vow to run the same schemes." All you really learn there is that Meeks knows "coachspeak".

On the flipside, there have been numerous articles where players have talked about how different the system is from Trgovac (simpler, among other things).

Sorry. Doesn't hold.
