How Much Pressure on KB13?

Recommended Posts

Smitty would have been our best receiver this year. Cutting him makes us worse and that seems counter productive when we were a top 3 team in the NFC last year. It's just a question of whether the long term savings make up enough ground to justify surrounding your young quarterback with bargain bin wideouts and a rookie during what could be a playoff year.

If our best WR would be a 35 year old with 400 yards and 2 TD's, we'd be fuged.

SS#89 being gone from this team, with our current personnel and current situation cap-wise and leadership-wise, is one of the best things that has EVER happened to this franchise.

Steve was never going to tutor anyone, much less a rookie, Steve was never going to help the cap out of the goodness of his heart, Steve was never going to catch over 600 yards again, Steve was never going to catch over 8 TD's again, Steve was never going to be Cam's new best buddy off the field (not even I expected him to, but Cam is from Mars and Steve is from Venus), Steve was never going to be over 5'8".

I loved the man as if he was my brother...my NFL playing, nationally known and respected brother.  But, even my dumbass self could see he was not worth his current or future salary, current or future headache and that GMan had a vision that doesn't include impending has-beens.

Give the fuger a statue in 10 years and a place him in the ROH but for now, he is a Raven.  IDGAF.

You can wave away his production, but his numbers were better than anybodys we brought in. To bring it back around to the original question, I think there is going to be a lack of quality receivers this year, just as last year, so the speed at which Benjamin develops is a big storyline for the team this year.

Ya that is probably true but you can't risk him not retiring and screwing the panthers cap-wise.

Sure he could have retired after this year and things would be great and dandy but do you take the risk?

If you keep smith this year that means you activate an extra year paying him 9 mil. .

So basically if Smith retires he doesnt get any extra money OR he could FORCE the panthers to cut him so he gets extra money.

This is basically what Chris Gamble did. He knew he was going to retire but if he retired he wouldn't get any more money so he forced the panthers hand and the panthers released him. He then retired and got some extra money due to the panthers cutting him.

lol "decline" Smith was still a top 20 receiver in the league last year, take a look at the stats, take a look at the high light film, he wasn't breaking 7 tackles and running 70 yards to the house like he was a few years ago but don't act like spoiled kids when your junk yard dog gets a little grey in the tooth you don't put him down.

Meh, the whole Smitty thing has been argued/talked/chatted/tweeted/listened to death. Let it go! it's over, what we as fans have for a team now does nto include Smitty. Love him as a player. but no Player is greater than the team.

Looking ahead, I see KB as a contributor this season on 3rd downs and Red Zone plays. As we all seem to.

"IF" Ricky Proehl can get his old team mates to show up for Training camp, I think that'll help some too. but KB is doing the right things so far.

Hope it all works out! But that's the best part... we get to wait and see.

Steve had 4 TD's in 2013--- Cotchery had 11

I think our best wide receiver will be a 32 year old who has averaged 350 yards the past three seasons. . . So unless KB can play well right out of the gate, we might be kinda fuged this season.

I agree with everything but the statue.
