High stress job problem

Do your best at your current job.  Keep those references in good health.  You never know when you'll come in contact with people again, it's a small world is not just a cliché.

But keep looking out there.  It's nice to have the freedom of choosing a new job when you already have one.  Your mind is a bit clearer and you aren't desperate.  Companies like to hire people already employed too so that helps.  if you get an offer, talk to your company and explain the reasoning for leaving.  They may change their tune and try to get you to stay.  If not, say thank you and give them your 2 weeks or w/e of notice and move on.

I am highly confused.

Are you in sales?

Especially if you are only a year into a big boy job, there are plenty of entry level jobs out there, BUT, you need to be willing to work your ass off. We all have to do the bitch work for a few years to get to where we want to be. Don't have some distorted view that you're just going to go out and find another job that's handed to you and is fun and easy. Finding a job is a job in itself these days. So, I would find another job before I go quitting the current one. Its always harder to find another job without one currently.

My first (real paycheck not waiting tables) job out of college was working in the call center for the Wachovia Securities website. Extremely stressful, high turnover (any entry level normally is), and cut my patience down to a much lower level than it was before I took that job. I was more frustrated with old and non-technologically apt people than ever before. HOW CAN YOU GET ONLINE STATEMENTS IF YOU DON'T HAVE A COMPUTER?! the anger, its still there.

With that said, I never would be where I am today and where I want to be going if I hadn't had those first few frustrating entry level years.

Or, you just know someone and get lucky enough to get a job where you don't have the required experience, but that happens rarely. Especially entry level.

so do you enjoy what you do but it's just stressful? or do you actually hate it?

The job really isn't too bad, even though it has it's bad days, problem is the management and nature of the business.

When I was going through training I actually worked at another facility and it was actually a much easier and laid back job. no one really did anything, but it wasn't the facility that I was going to be working at and it's the exact opposite.

I've talked to a few people that have already gone through what I have, they all basically say the same thing, which is yeah it sucks but it's a good learning experience and getting the other position is well worth it. has been pretty much my universal response received.

I did voice some issues with higher management about 3 months ago about my immediate supervisor, they didn't really do anything(nor were they surprised about my complaints).  upper management's attitude is basically as long as it doesn't affect them they don't care.

Yeah, it's not customer service, or sales or anything like that, to narrow it down a bit more I'm in public service(and I'm being vague).

Ok, as some might know, I, about a year ago got my first "Big Boy" job. I originally pursued and took the job for all the right reasons, aka looking to bring some financial stability to my life and a job with a defined career path going forward. I've hated the location but I thought taking the job was worth it.

I kinda knew when I took the job that it was going to be a lousy job in some ways, it already was notorious for having a high burnout rate, for example I'm currently on my 3rd set of co-worker over this last year, not counting management.

right now it's looking like, in part due to high staff turnover they may be looking to not offer a job advancement opertunity this year that was promised when I was originally hired(a big reason I took the job). Currently, I'm facing the tough choice of: do I want to tough it out for another year? or go ahead and start looking for another job in a less stressful situation and a better location?

Draw back would be that I'm pretty sure sticking anywhere for under 2 years is frowned upon in this field of work. And next year they would probably let me have the position outright instead of having to apply and go through a review board for it(same thing happened to someone last year, so it's happened before).

I'm honestly leaning more towards leaving but there is a part of me wondering if leaving this job before I get my goals finished would end up being a terrible idea in the long run. Right now I'm kinda damned if I do and damned if I don't.

you can always stick it out but never stop looking for the next job ,don't wait til you need one to start looking. Options are always good.

Correctional officer?

I too took a job last year I've been doing for about a year now. Pay is ridiculous but it's literally 24/7. I value money alot so I'm going to stick this out as long as possible and hope to retire by 35-40. Like every job have I have my awesome days and bad days. The awesome days is what keeps you going. I do enjoy it and wouldn't want to do anything else right now, but it's super stressful. I never posts in these threads but your situation, sounds alot like mine.

You said you took the job for financial reasons, your goal now maybe just be pushed back a year but unless your desperate for money I don't see how starting somewhere new beats sticking it out for another year.

Correctional officer? Talk about job security. There's only a few jobs in the world that you can always find work in America, hooker, truck driver, and prison guard.

Sent from my XT1080 using CarolinaHuddle mobile app

I guessed that because of the high turn over rate and he used the term facility.

Not sure what the pay is like in the states for CO's but in Canada you can make a pretty decent living doing it.

yep, and I can tell you for certain that not all situation and facilities are the same, I'm kinda in a shitty one, but at the same time they pay a lot better though, I am making $7k a year more then the staff at the facility that I started at, and most of them had been there a bit, and I was first day on the job already making $7k more, they were pretty pissed about it hahaha.

Will say if it wasn't for them paying me what they did I'd have quit this job 4 months ago. and most of my on the job stress doesn't come actually from the inmates but management, they get upset over some silly stuff, with what I would call unreasonable expectations. much of them could use a good management 101 class. especially my immediate supervisor.

I didn't really want to say that much about what I do on here because heaven forbid with some of the stuff I've said on here if anyone ever connected the dots, I'd probably be fired the next day. ;-P
