G.Olsen:I'm a TE, not a WR and proud if it

Graham was a 3rd round pick (95th overall).

For the record, Olsen was picked in the first round (#31 by the Bears).  We got him for a third rounder.

Ironic that we ended up getting him afterall.  He was the exact guy who I wanted that year and I just knew we were going to take him.  Then we took Beason.  I was so pissed at the time.

i think that was a shared sentiment for a lot of Panthers fans.

i was Panthers GM for a mock draft run by Chris Spielman that year and took Olsen.

Spoke briefly to Spielman afterward.  He was acquainted with then OC Jeff Davidson and believed Davidson would kill to have a TE like Olsen.

Not surprising since Davidson was a former TE coach.

I remember watching him in the combine drills. Man he looked fast through that straight line drill where the wr catches balls from both sides. Smooth and flawless. Glad to have the Nutty Prof

Top 5 te????

I was thinking the same thing. Who would be his top 5?

(off the top of my head)

1.Rob Gronkowski

2.Jimmy Graham

3. Vernon Davis

4.Jason Witten

5. Antonio Gates

Not even mentioning the new blood Julius Thomas, Cameron Jordan, Tyler Eifert, Zack Ertz, etc etc.

Olsen a top 5 TE? lol no. He's a top 10 for sure, not a top 5.

Idk man. Honestly after the big 3 of Graham, Davis and Gronk it's a real toss up.

Given Wittens age and Gates recent string of injuries I hardly consider them top notch anymore.

Cam Jordan is a stud. Would think he's probably number 4 for me.

Then it's anybody's game. I love Thomas but look at his supporting cast. He was probably the 4th-5th option on his team last year. Plus Peyton Manning...

Eifert has Green taking off pressure and a solid run game so should be feasting on play action. Stats don't back that up.

Ertz could be a stud but time will tell how Chip Kelly's system translates in year 2.

Arguments could be made that Greg Olsen is the 5th best TE in the league.
