I attended my first pro boxing match a few weeks ago when Provodnikov took on Algieri. Not a heavyweight bout but very entertaining nonetheless.

Met Oscar De La Hoya at work this afternoon too. He was promoting a fight for Golden Boy Productions that's being fought at my place of work.

Over the last few years, the UFC has given it a helping hand out the door.

 

 

This.  It hurt boxing on a whole.  I also think people got bored of heavyweight fights because of all the hugging and whatnot.  Tyson was fun because he usually got a knockout but the hugging and whatnot is not fun.  The smaller guys are more fun to watch and, people figured out those fights weren't as fixed as the heavyweight ones.   MMA has taken a lot of it too, especially the fact that boxing is so dangerous for you because of the blows to the head.  MMA is dangerous too but not as dangerous to your head (usually) like boxing is.  You may have messed up ears, and limbs in MMA at 50 but at least you'll know where you are.
